The character of Ash looks 14+ years old when hes apprantly 10 years old.
It doesn't make sense to me XD.
The only thing that changes throughout the series is his voice.

Yes, Master Jecht is right. In my opinion, Ash looks about 13. (Maybe in Japan the kids are taller than they are in America! Just a thought.)

I think adults forget what kids look like, I mean in so many shows kids that are supposed to be 8 barely reach their average height parents hips.

Also maybe Ash was one of those kids who hit puberty early on? Or perhaps pokemon takes place on mars where one of their years is longer than one of ours.

I think that Ash is fourteen.
Dawn is thirteen, even though she wears a skirt that is like, two inches long.
And Brock is at least sixteen.

Would it hurt the narrarator to give a brief description of each character at the beginning of a new season and mention how old each character is?

It sure would help.

It all seems abit perverted, but hey it's Japan. No racism intended. Ash should be about 14/15. For example, when they got to Viridian city in Kanto. Ash went, "I can't believe a year has passed". Well he's definatly over 11. You can see Ash looks more matured, with the clothing and facial expressions.

Maybe it's just me, but I think them pictures say it all. Just look at how he reacts now, instead of going overboard and jealous. Like when Gary winded him up, but when Paul does. He reacts more calm and mature.

I've said for the last couple of years that Ash is around the age of 15.
That's commonly what people have his age sat at, especially for a lot of the Pokemon RPs.

But it's been said before in interviews with staff of the production companies/directors/ect ect.. that Ash, Brock, and Misty, as well as the others, are treated as typical cartoon characters. Or at least, are treated as such in the way of not getting an older. Because Pokemon has been going on for so long, and will keep going, holding onto the same feel as the original series, Ash and the group technically do not age. That factor is over looked. So when it comes down to that, Ash is still 10, Misty is still 11, and Brock is still same age that he was at the start too.

As much as I'd like to see the characters age, from what has been, it isn't actually happening.

I knew a year had to have past!

Let's just say it took him a year for each region (excluding the OI)

Now, I don't think the The Orange Islands took him a whole year. it was probably no more than half that.

If I recall correctly there was a few months break after Kanto, right? add that in with however long the OI took, and I think it's about a year between the end of Kanto and Johto's Beginning.

so:

1 for Kanto, so he's 11 at the end.
I'd say about a year has past by the time Johto starts, so he's about 12.
13 by the time it ends and Hoenn begins.
I'm not quite sure how long they spent in Kanto the second time (Battle Frontier)... But I'm sure it wasn't a whole year.

I'd say he's about 14/15 right about now.
Same for Misty.
May is about 11 or 12 right now. (though, I don't recall if they ever stated May's age)
Dawn, it was clearly stated that she's 10.
Not quite sure about Max and Brock... I think Max is like 9 or something. And Brock is maybe... 18? (did they ever state Max or Brock's ages?)

They're only ten for the sake of appealing to their target audience. They can imagine being these great travellers rather than staying home and going to school. Of course, I can't possibly imagine a show about little shrimps running around with big monsters, so I'm glad they don't look ten.

Ash is 13 1/2. Final answer. And if they do suffer the Simpsons Syndrome, then I don't find any shipping possible with him. I'm ranting to PUSA if he is still 10 by the time Sinnoh ends. The timeline here in Pokemon is the exact opposite of FullMetal Alchemist. In FMA, timeline made no sense, Ed is State Alchemist at 12, it looks like a few days after his lil adventure but it turns out it actually lasted 3 YEARS. No sense belong him to, dude. This issue with Pokemon age is getting VERY annoying.
