Yeah, I guess AR can get you rare pokemon but then, they wont be legit.
If you want to play fairly and fight your friends, get wi-fi.
If you want to be a cheater and play on your own, get action replay.
I'd say wi-fi as I have it and think its excellent.
It's your choice in the end though.

as soon you start cheating, the fun is over. because the fun in a game is overcoming a challenge. there isn't a challenge when you cheat. right now im completing the dex, and im excited when i get my hands on a rare one. action replay ruins that fun and just makes things like completing your dex like a boring deskjob...
