And haffeysucks, you've got me there. Unless Torterra struck first, Empolean would win the match. However, an EV-IV trained Torterra (concerning speed) would defeat Empolean, no prob. Still, though. I don't know what you'd call that; an equal match? One could KO the other, and vice versa.

Empoleon's base Speed is 60, while Torterra's is 56. Who in their right mind would EV Speed on either one? Empoleon would almost certainly strike first.

I had Charmander when I played the gameboy color games and I still have Charmander now on my DS.

I think Piplup becomes the most practical multiplayer asset once it evolves into Empoleon, but I don't usually pick my teams based on how well each PKMN is able to survive on its own. I've always like Blastoise, but I was also attracted to Torterra's type combination, and power, so I voted for Turtwig. Besides, Torterra is the coolest looking one. Who wouldn't want a giant tortoise with a tree on its back?

Charmander is my top favourite out of all the starters. It just brings back so many memories of when I first played Pokemon Red years ago. Also, I love Fire Pokemon (I once had an all-Fire team back in my Red game... pretty bad idea if you ask me now).
I have never played any of the games for the DS.
