    First post :p

Much debate with my own friends about which mons can be repeatedly evolve for XP, apart from the usual pidgeys, weedles, catepies and rats.

What about other common mons such as zubats and spearows? Can these be evolved repeatedly as well? Or are we better off saving the candies?

Piboitan, welcome to Poke Community! =)

You could target anything to evolve repeatedly for XP. If there is a nest near you where lots of a certain type spawns, that could be good if you can catch enough of them.

Personally, I don't look outside the pidgey, weedle, caterpie, rattata realm you already mentioned.

The reason those types work so well for gaining XP is that they have a low threshold for evolution. Usually 12 (or 25). They're also common in most areas, so they've understandably become the best to farm.

You can repeatedly evolve Zubats and Spearows, yes, you'll just do it a lot less. Get a good Fearow and a good Golbat (or two) and save those while you transfer and evolve the rest. If you have the evolution that you want there's really not much point in saving candies of its type unless you plan on powering it up later.

    My sentiments exactly.

I guess my only concern would be evolving a certain type of mon outside the "usual" realm only for that mon to receive a buff in future updates. Spewin if hundreds of candies were blown on evolving for xp then.

I pretty much catch everything I see.

Then evolve when in combination with a Lucky Egg will yield anything upward of 50,000+ experience in a single sitting.

Obviously I evolve mostly Pidgeys, Weedles and Caterpie due to how cheap they are to evolve. But if I end up with with 25 candies for another Pokémon's first stage evolution, then I go for it, too.

I try to catch everything, I always keep enough candies to evolve one of that type just in case I get a really strong one to evolve, I'm saving my zubat candy though for when gen 2 gets released

It's possible that you play a lot less than me (and many others) or live in a rural area or some other factor that makes candies a more precious commodity for you, but, I'll just throw this out there...

Unless you're literally eyeing level 40 endgame and maxing out the level on your Pokemon (and even then, I dunno if it's worth it...) you should know that at level 22, personally, I don't feel the need to hoard candies for anything less than a handful of uncommons (think Abra, Geodude, Jigglypuff) and Magikarp. But even that would change based on your area.

The point is this: Zubat tend to be just about everywhere and I think that as you level up you will have more than enough candies and will eventually just complete some evolutions for XP.

I had to LOL about Magikarp being an uncommon. You can't escape him around here! I imagine you don't live near a river.

Another thing about evolving for XP: don't forget to use up what you evolve before transferring it! My disposable army of raticates, pigeottos, hypnos, and golducks take down all of my enemy gyms. 6 of them work their way through high CP defenders eventually, and then after they take it my high CP pokemons still have full HP for defending. Then I just throw away the dead attackers. They're worth less than potions since I evolve two or more a day anyway.

I live in a rural area that's but it's got a lot of pokestops along the town high street and local river, I've just hit level 23, by the time I get to level 30 then i won't need to hoard candies since by then that will be the strongest wild ones I can find. I do plan on eventually getting to level 40, and long term plan is to have 2 of each evolution, 1 of each that specialises in attacking gyms and the other one to specialise in holding the gym.
Also about magikarps, I live near a river and there is an abundance of water Pokemon nearby (well there was until the recent update) and magikarps have always been uncommon around here, I generally see more psyducks/poliwags/staryus
