I haven't watched pokemon consistently after Advanced series so I can't comment much on Ash's later teams. But according to what I've watched so far Ash's team in the Hoenn was the best. Each pokemon had been given a unique personality. Torkoal the ultra-sensitive, Corphish the jealous, Treecko the coolest and Snorunt the mischievous were the best. Torkoal and Corphish were my real favorites. Which of the the Ash's team did you liked the most?

I like Ash's first team, but Orange Islands series team. Charizard that obeyed, Lapras, Bulbasaur, pikachu. Those were great.

Also if you add in some of his previous pokemon that he caught but didn't use like primeape, and kingler who wasn't used much bar the Indigo League.

When you've got squirtle, pidgeotto/pidgeot & butterfree I think if all those had been used in smartly played team rotations then he's got a great team.

Oh, and haunter if he's finished messing about never to be seen again lol.

For me, it is either Sinnoh or Hoenn/Frontier.

I liked both of these teams, but if Buizel had evolved. I would definitely say Sinnoh.

Advanced Generation (Pikachu, Jukain, Ohsubame, Cotoise, Heigani, Onigohri) and Diamond & Pearl (Pikachu, Dodaitose, Goukazaru, Mukuhawk, Bouysel, Glion, Fukamaru). It's probably no coincidence that both series have Pikachu taking a backseat and don't give Satoshi all three of the starters of those regions.

Satoshi's AG team is the most well-rounded of any character's. Most of them have strong characterizations, with the exceptions of Ohsubame and Onigohri after its evolution. With one exception, all of them get a good amount of shining moments. Pikachu wins Satoshi his first, third, seventh, and eighth badges, a Houen League battle, as well as two Frontier symbols - including the final battle against Jindai's Regice - while remaining his signature Pokemon. Jukain wins Satoshi his second and fifth badges, two Houen League battles, and a Frontier symbol. Ohsubame wins Satoshi his sixth and seventh badges and a Frontier symbol. Heigani wins Satoshi his fourth badge and a Frontier symbol. Onigohri wins Satoshi two Houen League battles. Cotoise is the clear weak link, unfortunately. The one problem most of the team (Jukain may be the one exception) had was the same issue I had with the trainer, there's really no development for any of them.

Development is where Satoshi's DP team shines. Goukazaru has one of the better development stories of any character, human or Pokemon, that runs throughout the entire series and is the heart of Satoshi's rivalry with Shinji. And even if they don't have Goukazaru's arc each of the other Pokemon, excepting Pikachu and Mukuhawk, at least get a batch of episodes that forces them to grow in some way that leaves a tangible effect on the rest of the saga. Naetle evolves into Hayashigame and needs to adjust to its new body and a new battle style to be effective in battle. Glion evolves from a timid Gliger who is forced to work beyond that before the narrative allows it to evolve. There are several episodes where Fukamaru has to master Draco Meteor. And some of them still have their big moments, though DP doesn't do this part as well as AG did. Bouysel has issues working with other Pokemon and learns to overcome them. Dodaitose wins Satoshi his first badge. Goukazaru wins Satoshi his fifth, seventh, and eighth badges and is the one to defeat Shinji in the end. Glion wins Satoshi his sixth badge. Bouysel wins Satoshi is third and fourth badges. Fukamaru is the Pokemon that allows Satoshi to defeat Kouhei in the Sinnoh League. And, like AG, most of them (Mukuhawk and Dodaitose excepted) have pretty strong characterizations.

The OS and BW didn't handle Satoshi's teams well at all, and XY has been pretty heavy on showcasing Pikachu without really giving much to Keromatsu or Yayakoma.

Sinnoh was the best battle/strength wise, followed by his Hoenn team. I love his Kanto team mainly for nostalgia too.

The two worst teams were Johto and Unova due to the lack of evolutions, poor accomplishments and lackluster development.

Obviously we can't place his XY team yet, but its shaping up to follow Hoenn/DP's so far.

Ash's Sinnoh team was my favorite because of how much they developed. Most of the development was focused on Infernape, but Ash's other Pokémon occasionally got their own episode in which they honed their abilities. Although a lot of Ash's Sinnoh Pokémon lacked personality, like Staraptor and Torterra imo.

Ash's Hoenn team made me laugh the most, along with his Unova team. Ash's Kanto team had a small mix of humor and development, but most of that was focused on Pikachu and Charizard. Ash's Johto team didn't really do a lot but I think they all had unique traits and they were in tune with Ash's personality at the time. Ash's Kalos team has had a good start but I haven't witnessed a whole lot from them lately. His team is far from complete, so it's too early to judge.

Gotta vote for Sinnoh team as well.
But that team was too OP so they had to bring Takuto to destroy it.

I really liked the team of Sinnoh, there were so many strong Pokemon in comparison with teams from other regions.

I completely agree, his Sinnoh team was definitely much more formidable than other regions. I also quite liked his Johto team as, much like Wobbu mentioned, I liked how they aligned with Ash in different ways and they all had their own personalities (for the most part).

I would definitely go with Ash's first team in Kanto. I loved all those Pokemon. I'm probably blinded by nostalgia though lol.

I liked How Gibble's draco meteor would hit Piplup all the time. Scraggy would headbutt everything.

I think Sinoh spent more time actually training, developing those pokemon. Chimchar, stands out of course but Gliscor, Gibble, and others had elements that made them feel unique.
