    I chose Chimchar because it is just the best lookwise of the three and I find him to be a lot more powerful.
     
    i picked chimchar, i guess it's just tradition. i always pick the fire type starter, because i think they look the coolest. but you're right Nacon, i haven't seen too many people with torterra. i've definitely seen more of empoleon and infernape. it's all personal preference i guess.
     
    in my first play through of the game i had turtwig and he could puw everything with STAB EQ, but i desided i wanted to ev train a starter and desided to start the game again and picked chimchar, so my vote would go to one of them
     
    I guess I'm one of the few that picked Turtwig (now Torterra)?

    I almost picked Piplup out of sheer cuteness factor, but I prefer grass-types.
    I'm actually not a fan of fire-types (Charizard is cool though), and I don't really like monkeys.
    My boyfriend and another friend of ours picked Turtwig as well. (You'd think we'd all have picked different starters so we could breed/trade with eachother, but no.)
     
    Chimchar. It helped me through alot of the game. But Roark was tough with it.
     
    On competitive battling: if you want to know which starter is best, this is hardly the forum to ask. Anyway, Infernape is probably the most powerful starter of any game, and makes one hell of a mixed sweeper. Empoleon is a great wall, but used a bit less. Torterra... nobody cares about him. 4x Ice weakness=no. Besides, many better Pokemon get STAB Earthquake (Garchomp, Hippowdon, Steelix, Swampert, Donphan, etc.).

    But I chose Piplup. I traded with friends to get the other two.
     
    I traded with another game and got them all.
    But I probably woulda picked Turtwig if I didn't have the choice.
