Whither Japanese terms in the Episode Discussions?

I've been mulling this a while, but the past few episode discussions have motivated me.

Lately, I've been pondering on using Japanese terms in the dub episode discussion synopsis (the "Here is where you can discuss..." sentence). I know some of you prefer Japanese terms, whereas, some of you prefer English dub terms. So, I'm conducting a poll on which one is the more prevalent. Personally, I probably prefer the dub names for convenience's sake, but I don't mind doing the research on the other.

I wouldn't apply the Japanese terms until late Spring/early summer, so we have plenty of time. Then again, we post enough Japanese episode threads, so it may be a moot issue as we can now split the difference (save the dub terms for the dub discussion, and the Japanese for the Japanese discussion). If nothing else, it will be good for future reference.

No, English dub terms are just fine for me. I'd think it'd be more fitting, seeing how we're talking about the English dub. It's also alot better for those who don't know the Japanese names 'n stuff. I mean, they could always search and find out, but like you said, for convenience, I say use Dub terms.

I actually prefer to have the English terms as well. Remember most of the PC population is American (or at least live in the US), and it would not make sense to many if Japanese terms were used.

Besides, English is an awesome language :D.

It looks sort of silly when people use the Japanese names in the dub episode discussions, since the people that only watch the dub will have no idea what they're on about. I wonder why they do since they've just watched it in English...But I don't really care since I know both XD

I've been pushing for this since you asked about it. I'd want the Japanese episode titles since they're better than the dub ones but could care less for names.

Right. I never understood, "we must go with the most accurate version of the name, evah!" Because I was often confused by the Japanese names until I researched. So far, the majority of you are fine with splitting the differences.

Although, the poll is tied, as of now. Very interesting.

I apparently got my answer, but I'm still curious to see more opinion.

I, personally, prefer the Japanese terms. Not only do I prefer them, but I'm more used to them. Hell, I didn't even know who Fantina was (I only knew her name in Japanese was Melissa) until I heard the dub. =/ So, I use the Japanese terms (i.e., Monster Ball and every name for characters/Pokémon) instead, even when talking about the English dub. Though I grew up with the English dub, I've, more recently, started watching the Japanese episodes. Though I still watch the English episodes, I've gotten way more used to Japanese.

Hence why I say Shinji, Satoshi, and Raichuu instead of Paul, Ash, and Raichu. .

EDIT: I do admit, however, to using the English Pokémon names more often, since, if I use the Japanese Pokémon names, no one will have a clue what I'm talking about. I'm sure half of you don't know what a Mirokarosu is. .

Well, for the heck of it, I chose Japanese terms because I grew up in the Japanese fandom, but like everyone else, English terms for English dub, Japanese terms for the Japanese original. :)

Though I've gotten an idea. Maybe for English dub reviews, if you prefer using Japanese terms, you could do something like Satoshi/Ash, Shinji/Paul, or Hikari/Dawn. (XD My fave trio.)

I agree with the saying of
"Japanese for Japanese Discussion" and "English for English Discussion"
It's rare I talk in the dub seeing as I don't watch it. As I don't watch it I don't see why I should convert to Conway or Angie when the English episodes come out when I already know the them as Kohei and Aoi.
The older characters slip by because most of us have watched the dubs as kids. So saying Ash in a Japanese episode isn't such a big deal. Then I get confused when talking if I want all the names in English or all in Japanese, and the characters that are new stick out if I do English.

For the pokemon...that is a problem. I know half by one language half by the other. @_@
I'm pretty sure everyone who watches the Japanese know the character's pokemon, but the random ones that show up get a little confusing if you don't catch their names.
Even though, it wouldn't take long to go see what it was really.

I had thought about that, but the problem is whenever I have to apply the slash character to ships or merge character ideas or Pokemon Battles. Like: "Satoshi/Ash/Shinji/Paul." Yes, I can re-write it that in a lot of ways, but there are times I need to do character x/character y for flow. So, for that, it would be one of the other.

This is getting fascinating, actually.

Yes, I would use Japanese terms for the humans, for the most part. I'm improving on the Japanese Pokemon terms. Though, not that at the point where I can be given one and I instantly know who it is.
