Who should go to Mars?

In my opinion, robots should go there first. Why? Because I also read the article Lelouch talked about.

I just recently read a article about that. There is a new study that based on mice which state that amount of cosmic rays expected to bombard astronauts during this extended trip could lead to severe cognitive side effects that will stick around long after they've returned to Earth, including memory loss, anxiety, and chronic dementia.
So this is also one of problem they have to overcome to make trip to mars possible xD

Whether we like it or not, this problem can't be solved in the immediate future, at least not in the safest way possible. We had to send dogs and monkeys to space before we sent in people. We must do several launches to Mars with the goal of researching human habitability as well.

Sending in robots is also beneficial because they can then construct the first houses and infrastructure on Mars before we send in the people. Although SpaceX's rocket is reusable, there's no telling if we could actually successfully bring the people back without a proper launch infrastructure. Look at rocket launches on Earth and you'll see right away what a huge spectacle it is with lots of ground staff and massive launchpads. Even if Mars' escape velocity is less than Earth's, there still lays a possibility that the first astronauts on Mars might need to stay there an extended time and giving them houses to live in would be more humane than 'heroically sacrifice' them.

I agree 100% about everything launch infrastructure, sending animals first all c: But there is talk going around that they're going to put magnetic field around spacecraft to reduce or terminate the effect of cosmic rays xD I dunno though. But it's something to look into. If anyone don't know about effect of cosmic ray or what harm it did is that astronauts are not safe from these radiation particles inside of a spacecraft or in their spacesuits. Because these particles are incoming at a very high energy and a very high velocity, when they encounter a target they won't bounce off like a Ping-Pong ball, but will go directly through [any protective shielding] and can hit the astronauts inside.

And when these radiation particles enter a person's body, they can disrupt the structure of biological tissues and cells. A main concern is DNA. This radiation can damage the structure of DNA, inducing mutations, and if the body can't properly repair the accumulation of these mutations, we have a concern about cancer. Cancer, while largely a genetic disease, winds up coming from an accumulation of mutations in hotspots for important genes.

So that's what it's about. But like you stated rune that's another possibility to look into ^ _ ^
