How come in many cases strong trainers (gym leaders, E4 members and champions) never give their pokemon items beyond say... A sitrus berry on their signature pokemon?
To fight a champion who's got things like maybe items like leftovers, shell bells, typed move boosting items (like black belt or miracle water), expert belts, life orbs and many other items with effects?
Is it because people would be going mad with their thief TMs? They could simply make it so that items stollen from trainer owned pokemon are returned (they disapear) after a battle. I just thaught it would be a nice twist to a game where it makes them at a closer to equil level of capability that you are. Even an elite four member or champion knows that puting even the simplest of items on a pokemon raises the likelyhood of winning a match!
For example I'l use lucien of the sinnoh elite four since he's one of my favorites.
Mr mine- light clay
alakazam- life orb
bronzong- leftovers
medicham- expert belt
girafarig- twisted spoon
Perhaps not the best of items for serious modern competitive battling but you can see that these items would influence the battle in a prety big way. Mr. mime's screens would last an extra 3 turns, alakazam would be able to sweep easier, medicham can intensify its wide range of coverage punches, girafarig's psychic might hit you for higher damage and bronzong would be come that much closer to being an unstoppable tank.
