Why do pokemon sprites distort the colors of the pencil/brush tool in GIMP 2

    I don't understand... what's different about tiles that makes the colors break when I try to use them on a sprite for example blue becomes grey..
     
    The sprites are probably still indexed.
    You have to change them to RGB mode first if that's the case.
     
    iirc, if it's a .bmp chances are it is indexed, as .bmp's usually only have 16 colors.
    The program will change the new color you picked to the closest it can, based on what the index colors are.
