Why do so many pokemon now...

Where is it written that Pokemon can't be based on machines? I can point out machine-like Pokemon from every generation, but others have already done that. On my personal list of favorite Pokemon designs, I have animal-based ones, but I also have machine-based ones.

What about Hoothoot? Yes, it's based on an owl, but its movements of its head are based on a clock's, as are the clock-hand-like tufts above its eyes. So, it's essentialy based on both an animal (owl) and a machine (clock). What category does it fit into, then?

Mechanical Pokemon have been with us since the days of Magnemite and Voltorb, and they aren't going away. Nor do I want them to.

Spoiler tagged so that those of you who don't wish to read an opinion that is long and winding and explain away pretty much every complaint people keep doling out for silly reasons:

Spoiler:

By the way, might I also point out that everytime a new generation comes along, a lot of people whine and moan about it and say they're done with Pokemon and that it's become stupid and idiotic with the newest generation.
But then out of curiosity, they borrow the game from a friend, or rent or buy it from a store and realise: "OH MY GOD! I was actually quite wrong about this new generation and it's starting to grow on me" and by the time the next one comes along, they are in love with the one they bashed last time and begin to bash the new one.

Haha. It's like an endless circle.
Admit it guys, most of the people complaining are gonna love the new games, and you know you will.

Well, to answer your question right away, the increasing trend of lousy designed, digimon-lookalike pokemon is due to animators and designers loosing creativity and inspiration!

I see what you mean. Dialga and Palkia both looked very cyborg and so do the new Black & White legendaries.

It's probably because modern day children like more modern Pokemon rather then Mew or Mewtwo. They like looks and style alot more than ability. It just depends what taste you have in Pokemon games on whether you like cyborg's or not.
