Why do we play Pokemon so much?

I play Pokemon because my little Elementary school classmates were all about it and got me interested. Now It's like stuck to me. xD

Why?

A friend told me about it when I was young. I tried it out and fell in love with all the Pokemon (Except Pikachu, I have a grudge against Pikachu). When I started, Crystal was "The big thing," but when I tried Ruby, now THATS when I became addicted.

Wow, this thread is sad... XD

I play it simply because it's FUN. It's exactly the kind of game that I love-- travel around and explore, catch / discover hundreds of different species of Pokemon
Much seconded, it's awesome how many different types of pokemon there are. And after your finally done catching em all, you can try to collect all the shinies, or all the events etc.

As someone who played a ton of Shoddy Battle before they got a DS and Pearl battling pokemon is a ton of fun and there's lots of neat strategy involved. I think the pokemon metagame is really cool.

I also like the amount of random tasks the game makes you go through. An example is you go from "my team could use a Milotic" to the planting and the stirring and such. My friend who had the game before me had collected most of the rare candies, so I was trying to figure out how to get more without trading for them (since ppl can just hack inf w/ action replay and you can't tell) and doing that has involved chaining and breeding and mining and fishing and training and such.

Finally it feels great when you've hatched boxes full of pokemon and you finally get the one you want.

EDIT: I didn't like pokemon red blue at all (and I hated yellow) way to simplistic. Once you beat the game all you can try to do is complete the dex, and you need a link cable and stuff for that. And even without that it's like DAMN TARUOS STAY IN YOUR BALL. Also the Missingno glitch was fun for two seconds and then it ruined everything. I liked Crystal for a bit, but it got boring really fast. I never bothered with the third generation because it didn't have day and night and was therefore PHAIL. Pearl/Diamond have me hooked.

Do not question, just enjoy.

I play pokemon because honestly, it is one of the best RPGs around. And as "kiddish" as society makes it seem, it is still a very well developed game. Plus its fun.

amen to that. Its one of the best games out there, i mean come on... its lasted for over 10 years and hasn't lost its playability. I can't say that any other game that is currently popular like Halo or something will last over 10 years...

In all honesty, i think theres also that childish hope deep down inside that wants everyone to realize how amazing it is and start showing battles on TV and stuff... kind of like how Starcraft is in Korea haha

I would much rather watch top battlers duke it out then 3/4ths of the crap on network TV.

I sometimes wish I lived in South Korea so I'd have cool stuff to watch on TV :)
