This is what i have been thinking about for a while. Barrier isn't a move that is learned for Dragonite in R/B/Y, however Lance's Dragonite knows the move. Any one with an explanation?

    Hax. He uses hacks.
soon he's gonna have a level like, 12 Dragonite :/

Would probably be awesome to add a gameshark code to catch/steal his Dragonite. Not many people can brag with having a Dragonite that knows Barrier in R/B/Y.

    no idea

I never had any idea as to why and thought at first it was a move Dragonite could learn on its own. Perhaps its for the same reason Lance's Dragonite is underleveled in GSC.

^That one actually makes a small amount of sense. He was investigating Mahogany's strange signal that *hint*EVOLVES POKEMON EARLY*hint*. I always thought that while that signal's going they should do something like temporarily make Pokemon evolve 5 levels sooner than they should. That would have totally explained Lance.

In that case why not Gameshark a Dragonite into knowing Barrier from the beginning? Wouldn't that be easier?

A greater mystery for me is the sucky movesets that the E4 pokémon have. Blue's Exeggutor really blows.

That would work too, lol. And you are absolutely right, some of the E4 Pokémons have absolutely rubbish movesets.

Well, to go with a real explanation of it, if I'm not wrong, Dratini can learn Barrier as Egg Move in G/S/C. Maybe that's it?
He could have visited Johto before G/S/C came out, done an Egg and did it. :D

That would probably be it. I remember in the beginning of Pokémon: The First Movie, during the opening theme, that Ash battled a Trainer who had a Donphan. Donphan isn't a part of the first original 151 Pokémon, so yes indeed it were possible for some trainers to visit Johto before G/S/C were released.
