2nd Gen Why is my Eevee silver? [Shiny Pokemon]

Shiny Pokemon were first introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver. With the exception of the Red Gyarados, they are very rare, with a 1/8192 chance of being found in the wild. Shininess was determined by the Pokemon's IVs; if its Speed, Defense, and Special IVs are all 10 and its Attack IV 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15, the Pokemon will be shiny. Additionally, a Shiny Pokémon's HP IV can only be either 0 or 8. If you bred shiny Pokemon, there was a better chance of hatching a shiny because the parents could pass down their IVs to their offspring. In Crystal, the Pokemon that hatched from the Odd Egg has a 14% chance of being shiny (and a 50% chance in the Japanese version).

Anyway, if you played GSC where they were younger, do you remember what you thought about shinies? Did you ever encounter a shiny Pokemon besides the Gyarados; if it was wild, did you catch it? Did you ever use any shinies on your team? What did you think about the rarity of shinies in GSC--were they too rare, too common, or just right?

I remember thinking shinies were neat, but in all of my time on Gold, I never encountered one in the wild aside from the Red Gyarados. I do recall being excited when I found out that my Blastoise on Red had the right IVs to be shiny on GSC and Stadium 2, and I've wanted to get another shiny Blastoise to imitate it ever since. The only GSC shinies I found were on Silver (I had all three games), and I found them on something of a throwaway file after the other two games died. I moved them to my storage on Stadium 2 before my Silver cartridge died, so I can still admire them there.

I wish shinies were more common, so that I could have used one in Gold. I never used one on my team in those games, though I did throw Gyarados into my team for the Elite Four hit buffer/as an HM slave (I essentially soloed Gold with Totodile before I made the rest of my team).

My very first Shiny besides the Red Gyarados was a Shiny Smoochum that I got in Crystal from the egg I received. In a later game, I caught a Shiny Mareep, which I put on my team. It was awesome as an Ampharos!
