Question: Why?

Every time somebody makes a thread in the Trade Corner that should be posted in the quick trade thread, I report it, like I was told. But lately there have been more and more. And reporting is useless because the mods never respond until hours later. So I do what I believe is right, I tell them it should be in the quick trade thread. Most of the time they retaliate with stuff like "Nobody looks at the quick trade thread!" I respond back to them saying it's still breaking the rules. And what do I get? I get warning after warning from Ursula, and now an infraction. I have done absolutely nothing wrong. So I ask you.
    Y U DO DIS?

Seriously, why? What did I do to warrant an infraction? If you're not on, and my reports go unanswered, what am I to do? Seriously tell me, because I just don't know anymore. I guess I'll sit back while the trade corner becomes a cesspool of threads like "I NEEDZ A TODILE!!!!111eleventy1!"

Moderators have lives, my friend. When you report a post, you can't expect their rule-breaking senses to tingle and drop everything they're doing to attend to it. When you start preaching the rules to other people, it's called minimoding, which is against the rules. If you're really unhappy with your reports not being answered, contact someone on higher staff trough PMs and they might handle the problem.

Just ignore those threads & let the mods do there work & you just go hang out & relax reporting so many threads is useless, it's kinda like telling on you brother every 5 seconds he did this ect..ect... just leave it be unless it's a super hostile post

No I don't expect them to drop everything and help, but even if they are online it usually takes an hour or more for them to do something about it.
    Example: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/192344
This thread was made on August 25th, one whole day passed before Ursula closed it. I reported that thread while she was online, and hours later, she was still on, and it was still open. I'm not asking for them to be on here 24/7. But if they have the time to PM and VM all their little friends, they have time to close thread that are not supposed to be there, because here's the secret: It's their job to do so! I got a warning for saying "Reported, have a nice day :)", W. T. F. That's not minimodding, that's saying "you did wrong, so I reported you so a mod can take care of it so I don't get in trouble." But guess what, I did. Things have changed here in 4 years. Being polite never called for a warning before.

Reported, have a nice day. :)

That adds nothing to the discussion going on in that thread. That may not be exactly mini-modding, but it is spam. Also, to me, that sounded sort of like you were attacking them for not reading the rules. It's kinda like saying "You're fired, have a nice day. :)"

Sure, being polite is cool and all, but posting something along the lines "Welcome to Pokecommunity! Enjoy your time here! :D" over and over again in the New Users / Welcome section would probably get you a warning even though it is polite.

And yet go into any welcome thread, and what do you see?

You know what, forget it. I just won't report any threads for a few days, apparently I'm the only one who does, so lets see how filled up it gets with crap.

Also I have been fired like that, and it softens the blow a lot less then "You're fired, get out!"< Been fired like that also. Then got called in for an apology because they caught who really was stealing from work.

    1. What makes you think you're the only one who reports threads?

    2. It's not your responsibility to report threads, the system is there to help out the mods of that section, not so that regular members can feel good about themselves. You don't have to feel obligated to do it O.O

Caring about the section you frequent and reporting threads is one thing, but complaining about the jobs the mods do there is unnecessary, especially for something as small as mods not closing threads right when you report them, which isn't a big deal at all. Making threads like this isn't useful at all to the staff, who are really the only ones who understand how well the forums are doing in terms of moderation, not regular members. Trust me, I've been there =(

I don't think he was complaining about the mods doing their jobs so much as he was for getting infracted for reporting threads/posts.. Any user should not have to fear using the report button (unless grossly abused on purpose) nor communicating with any of the mods, especially in a section they frequent often.

The added posts stating "reported" and so on was a bit unneeded but not to the point of an infraction IMO.

You do nothing. Its not your job to do anything. And to be honest, I'm confused why you care so much over a thread like that. I didn't know people were so intertwined with things like this in the trade corner, but if you have something against n00bs like I assume you do, I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do anyway. Besides, say you were a moderator and had the right to tell people in your forum not to do something. Say that person was a n00b who made something like that that's getting you all heated up. Do you honestly think that a n00b would respond to you? No. What makes you think they'll respond to you when you don't have a shiny badge or a colored/bolded username?

I think you need to find other things to worry about than reports going unanswered, omg. :| Get out of the house for a while or something because that's not something you should be all heated up over considering you're on a forum with kids half your age. What did you expect?

    o.o

A bit harsh there Patchisou.. ya think? we ain't a sppf.
He's only trying to be a helpful member.. I didn't see any signs of n00b bashing.. or 'mini' modding besides the oh you're reported posts, which I've already said are unnecessary.

I think this is a result when both parties want one outcome, but one believes its superior to the other and wants credit.

    Just to point something out;

    a) the report button, if you use it... dont post in the thread. You're going to bump it, and then have about 20 more reports for the same thread, and more bumps :/ VM the person or PM them because i'm sure the people that are mindlessly posting are new and aren't familiar with the ru;es/

    b) mods are not supposed to stalk their own section and have snipers set up to kill newbies. They are moderators for a reason, not because they have no life. So i think mod-bashing on that basis is kinda worthless.

    c) even if you dont report, mods will look at it anyway. I think report post is actually made for genuine threads that have many posts so that mods will know if there is a useless post in the middle somewhere so that they can delete it.

    d) (to the mods) i think a caution, then a warning, then infraction would have been better since it wasn't really a bad offence except annoying you guys :/

I think it's perfectly reasonable for a forum member to be concerned about how a forum is being used. Unfortunately the method employed when attempting to deal with these instances is a breach of forum rules: it requires off-topic posting. Of course it's not my job to tell you how to do yours, but in a situation like this I think a little discretion is required. What Haunter Master is doing is against anti-spam rules, but he's only doing it to raise awareness of what some would consider a more important part of correct forum usage, which is proper topic placement. If the thread is then deleted then it doesn't matter what it contained in the first place, and if it's moved you can (I assume) split the first relevant posts from the others and then delete the remainder, so the danger of setting a negative example is reduced, and I believe the reinforcement of correct topic placement is more important than a breach of spam rules, because he's not doing it to cause disruption, he's doing it to try and get people to think a little before posting.

    d) (to the mods) i think a caution, then a warning, then infraction would have been better since it wasn't really a bad offence except annoying you guys :/

From the words of the thread creator himself:

I get warning after warning from Ursula, and now an infraction.
According to him personally, he had been advised against doing it multiple times before the infraction. So, in my opinion, the infraction will still stand. He chose not to heed the multiple warnings given to him, so it's his own fault.

I don't recall stating that it was wrong of him to post a thread addressing the matter. But going about it just because his report was gone unanswered for three hours (he reported the thread at 7:15 PM EST August 26th, and the report was filled at 10:33 PM) is what is getting to me. I don't think that's such a long time to wait considering the fact that all of the moderators in that particular section weren't online at that time.

And... what he's doing is not at all against anti-spam rules. Not at all. Addressing matters regarding the community isn't at all spam-ful (unless this thread is addressing his infraction, in which case he should consult either the staff member who infracted him or consult a higher up regarding the matter). So why you're saying this is spam is really confusing me considering that you replied to it.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make (but clearly didn't get through) was that he shouldn't worry about the time of how long something takes nor should he try to address something such as that. Seeing as he's been around since 2003, you'd expect him to know that. My post was not at all against what he was posting but why he posted it. Especially since he was warned not to do what he did beforehand.

So, all of what you're saying in the last sentence wasn't needed at all as I didn't find him disrupting anything. Try rereading my post or something because you.. most likely didn't get the point of what I was posting. :|

@Vindy: When did I say it was wrong of him to post that? All I said was that he shouldn't take matters into his own hands and let the people in charge handle it. He already got warned prior to the problem not to mini-mod, yet he does it anyway. It's not his job, he shouldn't have to worry about it. Report the thread and move on. Don't try to take matters into your own hands, it'll only get you in trouble, as it clearly did.

Sorry, I should've made it clear that that "you" was a generalised plural you referring to moderators rather than a specific singular you referring to, well, you.

I feel as though I will regret this post in the future...

All I see from you Haunter Master is a thread where you want to rant about the moderation here. Trust me, rant threads don't work and only serve to earn you another infraction and the thread being locked, in my experience.

Also, I don't know why you are getting het up over an infraction. Deal with it, nothing will happen eg the world won't blow up when you get banned. Talk with Ursula and try and sort it out with her. She might just reverse the infraction if you're nice and polite to her. :)

    ah :x

then there is no fault in the staff's judgement.

@haunter: like its been suggested by spey, you're best off taking it directly to the moderator / staff member that issued the warning/infraction. Even if you get a delayed response, you will get one that is much more accurate.

So let me get this straight. You are complaining because a moderator warned you to stop posting in threads and to stop harassing the thread makers for breaking the rules then continued ignoring the warning which resulted in a perfectly fine infraction? If so then does that really make sense at all? Its what mods are for and if they cannot work at it right away what can be done? The Wifi and DPPt sections are the most hectic spam filled areas and nothing can be done if the job isn't done right away.

    You've got a point mitchman.

For Wifi and DPPt to remain spam free, we'd need about 50 mods there...and I don't think ANYONE on higher staff wants to scout out 50 mods. Doing such would be such a headache that it's unbelievable.

Personally, I have to agree that it's not worth the trouble to have that many mods, even recruiting one extra moderator would be a hassle. Not to mention that the current moderators there do their best job, they can't be there 24/7 to snap up reports.

And all of that goes without saying all of the unspoken rules between staff members which I certainly won't mention here. If you're not astute enough to pick up on THOSE then I can't help ya in that department. Such topics aren't exactly within my expertise area.
