Ok I dont collect the cards anymore but I have cards from sets up to rocket. But none of the to many copies of the same card. The game isnt fun anymore like it was when there were only a few sets what are your oppinions on this.

I strongly disagree. As a player for the last six years, nearly seven, I believe the trading card game is much stronger than it ever has been because of all the new sets, cards and strategies.

I have mixed opinions on this, but I know what you mean. Basically I think you can't play very well due to the amount of new cards that are also in circulation.

If you want to play with only a limited amount of sets, Id recommend Modified the format that happens in tournaments, were only a few (of the 31) sets are used which balances the game. It is worth noting though that these sets are all the recent one released within the past 2years.

    Wynaut!

Sure, in Unlimited the countless number of cards can get frustrating, but in Modified, as jwilso72 said, only a few sets are used (equalling the number of cards you have, usually, so if you know all your cards you're fine).

Well, "the more the merrier" or "three's a crowd", which one do you believe?

I just find it conusing the though with all the cards and remakes @_@... But I see what all of your points are.

More cards means more variety. More variety means more deck ideas. More deck ideas means more people battling in tournaments. More people battling in tournaments means the TCG is successful. That's the way it works.

Hmm I'll disagree with you on that point tbh.

Theoretically this idea works, but in the case of unlimited play where there are thousands of different cards, it doesn't. Which is what I believe DaVince is suggesting; he can't play due to the number of other cards.

When there is such a large choice of cards to make a deck from, some cards will be devalued due to the high competition and excessive power of other cards.
This is evident from unlimited tournaments, despite there being approximately 3000 different cards to choose from - competitive players will stick with some of the best such as Sneasel, Electabuzz, Blastoise and so on.
To stand a stronger chance of winning, many other players have little choice but also to play the most effective cards. As a result the majority of decks played in unlimited show very little variation. Because of this, unlimited play is very rarely used by Organized Play tournaments, as it is heavily biased towards a certain number of cards.

Therefore although there is greater range of picks, those which are used are often taken from a very shallow selection.
Cards which are good (such as Blaziken), however have poor chances and are rarely played.

The Modified format was introduced by WotC as a method of overcoming this problem. By reducing the number of cards that could be used, more decks could be played (saves getting beaten by the same archetype from 3years ago). So although the card pool is smaller, fewer sets have the greater effect on variety.

Less is More. Modified ftw :classic:

I like the R/S-onwards type of mod better, because I can get to use the 200 HP Whailord ex XD...

Nah, actually, IMHO the best ex cards are in the first few EX sets (e.g. Whailord ex, Gardevoir ex, Rayquaza ex, Muk ex etc.), barring those from R/S as they are just remakes of the oldest crap/overpowered cards.

Anyway, I say, while the more, the merrier, three is still a crowd...
