4th Gen wi-fi connection?

    what doeswi-fi connection mean and where do you get the connecter thingy? does it come with a WII? how do u set it up to your DS?
     
    the connector can be found at local games store most likely like game stop or game crazy for around 40 dollars. once you get it installed it is all wireless so you dont have to plug many things in
     
    be careful though it doesn't always work with every computer/internet provider. If you have to log into to your network or sign in to use the internet (like in my dorm) then a wifi router would be a better choice. I had a heck of a time setting mine up and had to spen 7 hours chatting to nintendo and my school's tech support.
     
    ah, i already had wireless internet in my room for mario kart, so i'm just playing and trading from my bed and couch, love it!
    first i always had to go to starbucks for some wifi-action..
     
    If you have a DS Lite and wireless internet which means you have a Wireless router then you don't need the Wifi, the DS Lite brings it built in. If you have a DS Lite and no Wireless acces then, yes, you need a WiFi. You acn ususally get them for around $30.00-$40.00. You connect it to the USB slot and you will get connection. REMEMBER: only use that step if you dont have wireless internet. This also works for the normal DS as well.

    ehm.. wifi is the word for the wireless internet technique the DS uses.. so when you say 'a wifi' you mean a usb-cable..

    something else; when you have wireless internet at home.. it can still be a pain to figure the security out.. wep and wap keys and all
     
    It might be worth noting, there are two different WIFIs in Diamond/Pearl. There is WFC (Nintendo Wi Fi connection) which is a connection to the internet over Normal Wireless Access (ie 802.11 a/b/g) and there is DSWireless which turns on the wireless sensor to determine if there are other nintendo DSs close by to talk to. Both are built into the Nintendo DS and DS lite, but work very differently.

    DSWireless can be used anywhere. It does not require any special equipment, and does not require any one else. When the game tells you it's launching DSWireless, it's just letting you know that it's going to actively try and find any other DS in the area (500 ft or so i think is the range) and if there are any, it will start to communicate with them. For anyone that had a GBA and had the wireless adapter, it's the same thing.

    WFC is used to connect your DS to the internet just like you would a wireless laptop. It requires you to be in range of a Wireless access point (like a linksys, netgear belkin, nintendo usb wifi) AND be able to associate with that access point (ie, have the password, wep key and other security measures). The DS has the wireless adapter built in, so if you already have a wireless access point (which many do) then you just go into the WFC connection setup, put in your passcode or wep key, and you are done. If you do NOT have a wireless access point, but you DO have internet to a computer in your home, you can buy the nintendo USB wifi adapter to plug into that computer. Considering the cost of a wireless access point and the advantages of it over a simple nintendo USB wifi adapter, i would recommend an access point every time. You can buy a b/g access point for the same price as a wifi adapter.
    The important thing to keep in mind, you can NOT do anything that launches WFC unless you are near an access point that is set up in your WFC connection settings.

    Don't know if all of that was needed by anyone or not, but hopefully it will answer at least one person's questions :)

    Just ask your parents. Didn't they make it? If not then write it down on a piece of paper. I know it even though I am not an adult.
     
    dont know what that was about, but what i tried to point out is that you can secure your wireless internet with different keys. if you have a real save key (WPA) your DS can't use the connection (WPA is too advanced for DS), and so you have to switch to a lower level security (WEP) to use it. i'm not a whizzkid and had to figure it all out on myself in my € 850 a month appartment..
     
    well i dont use wi-fi and i prolly wont, i never use big-area-connection things if u no what i mean, i only use link cables for me SP, and the DS is similar only with no cords, within 10 metres, the cable is about 4 metres but dont get me wrong. however i might use a wi-fi connection, but i still don't know. and i wouldnt get a wi-fi from the shops or anything, prolly just from ebay/my birthday :D
     
    If you are considering using a Wi-Fi router just for playing online with the DS, I suggest you get the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. It's a little USB dongle, extremely easy to use (no need to worry about WEP and authentication crap) and install, plus the DS recognizes it instantly.
     
    i disagree.. wireless internet at home doesnt cost more than normal dsl anymore, so just be able to go online from your bed, sofa, toilet, kitchen.. it's fun!
