Unless you have AR don't even bother trying to find your SID unless you've already caught a non-chained shiny. Just learn to RNG for iv's first.

Both my Diamond and my Pearl games have non-chained shinies, but I'm less concerned about hatching shiny Pokémon than I am with hatching those that have really good IVs. I'm guessing I wouldn't need my SID for that, then?

No, your SID has no effect on IV's.

So I found out today that I was RNG'ing for shinies on my platinum using the wrong ID... How weird is that?

What is your method of breeding...? Do you have a real game cart and action replay? Or are you using an r4, cycloDS, etc.

edit: I say this because im having a hard time understanding rng breeding for IVs (i ahve the shiny part down no problem), and im using an r4

When I first started I only had Platinum. Eventually I got an AR. It only helps with checking what frame I'm on because I use Fast hatch during that part. Necessary?, no.

well a way to find your SID easily is from a guy on pokemongts, he can find out hacks, ivs, evs, and SID fairly easy
