I will tell with one word. Vista.

Nope, not reading you. Vista was heavily promoted, yes. I wouldn't say it was overhyped. Yes, new computers mostly come with Vista. Why? Because Microsoft has licensing deals with all the big manufacturers, because people mostly use Windows and it's the latest version.

It maybe the latests but it's awful.

Also i like that Linux is open source and 100% free but if you want to use Windows you have to pay $500.... Screw windows :P

I know it's not prefect and I'm against Windows.

1. It's over priced junk. Nothing they sell is less then a $100. A basic word program cost like $200. I was getting my laptop fix and this guy next to me bought 4 of them for his business and 4 of them combined cost more then my laptop. It was just the basic office. Why does Microsoft have to charge so much. Do they pay their empolyees 6 fingers or something?
2. They don't care about the customer anymore just see them as dollar signs. Why else would they sell junk like Office 2007 and Vista which is so junkie I don't even want to mass with them but my school does so I have to use that junk. Why do I need stupid docx files anyway.

Well no one as to buy this junk... everybody can just use Linux and be happy :D

I know but they choice not do.

I still don't get it.. why do people pay $500 just to get that ****ing windows when you can get 100x better ox - Linux!!

*coughs* Red Hat? SuSE?

I can get Windows XP for AU$10 legally.

Watch your language, perhaps?

When you pay, you also pay for support. Linux doesn't give you professional support unless you pay for it. Communities are great. Communities can't solve all your problems. And do you have reasons as to why Linux is "100x better"? Or are you just making an unfounded claim? As I pointed out earlier, every OS has its strengths and weaknesses. At the moment there does not exist an "OMG BEST OS EVARRRRRR!!!11!!!1! IT DOES EVERYTHING OMG I LOVE IT OMG OMG OMG!!11!!".

Well i'm using openSuSe linux and i don't need any support because it's open source i can change it's kernel any time :D:D

... right. So what happens when you totally mess up?

"Our stuff is better."

Apple were beaten by Microsoft to release the first GUI OS. Had Apple released their new Macintosh's any earlier they would be the dominant market.

"I got there first! I got the loot, Steve!"

Had Linux been released before Windows or Mac OS, it would be the dominant market for software. But since Windows was released first everyone went out and got their new computers running Windows, thus all major software was programmed to be compatible with it.

You don't like something in Linux you can just change don't like something in windows well suck it up.

And flip that against the learning curve for Linux, the fact that you need to be an experienced user to get it to do what you want it to do, the fact that you have to be a good programmer to handle "changing things" as you say, and all the programs that let you change things in Windows? I'm not anti-Linux. I use Linux. I think it's brilliant for some things. I've gone to one of the biggest Linux conferences in the world and met Linus Torvalds. I've shaken his hand. But I think people who refuse to see reason, who set their minds on one thing and refuse to even consider arguments, even when they're wrong? I think those people are stupid.

And why do you think it's that hard to modify kernel? As i'm familiar with kernel code it's not a problem to me :)

It's not if you know what you're trying to do. ;)

And, really, there aren't many other reasons to modify the kernel other than to develop Linux. =) The kernel of an operating system manages memory/resources and processes -- if you're not developing/debugging Linux or enabling some experimental kernel feature, there isn't even a real reason to recompile the kernel (it takes ages!). Just asking (and not to be rude or anything,) but what were you guys changing (or planning on changing) in the kernel code? ^^'

If there's something you "don't like" in Linux, and you want to change it, it's gonna be, as you say, impossible in Windows without breaking into Redmond and stealing their source code (wanna help? =3), so you'd usually change KDE/Gnome (the user interface) or the specific application you don't like. Hope that helps. ^-^

Well the main reason why i was trying to change Linux Kernel was because i wanted to learn more about it.. so this way i could really get better in this code of linux kernel.. :)

And user interface has nothing to do with kernel..
