The clock seemed to be moving slower today. Miss Ovelby was ranting about the history of Olivine City but Heidi was paying little attention. The last hour of the school day was always the slowest. Heidi swore Ovelby had some form of magic powers that slowed down time to just torture her students.
Heidi looked around the classroom. Several of her fellow classmates had turned ten and left town to start their journeys so the class size had gotten smaller. Seats remained empty. This of course gave Ovelby more of a chance to focus on particular students to torture. In particular, she liked to pick on Heidi and her closest group of friends. Since the first day of class back in the fall, she had harped on them constantly for no reason. Unfortunately for Ovelby, she was messing with the wrong ten year old girl.
Ovelby was scribbling on the board a really terrible map of Johto, highlighting areas where the war destroyed the most back in the day. Heidi opened her desk quietly and pulled a red balloon filled with a mysterious liquid. Quietly, she grabbed the PokeBall around her neck and released Ekans from it. She held the balloon out towards the Ekans who gently grasped it in its mouth. Slithering silently towards the front of the room, the Ekans placed the balloon near Ovelby's foot. It quickly darted back to Heidi who returned it to its ball.
"And here the Western forces burned down the original Violet City in retaliation for the Sacking of Olivine Har-- GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" A miniature explosion interrupted her speech as pink paint flew everywhere, dousing Ovelby's shoes and skirt in the process. Angrily she crushed the chalk in her hand and glared directly at Heidi. "YOU--YOU--YOUUUUUUUUUUU GET TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE RIGHT NOW YOUNG LADY! I KNOW THIS WAS YOUR DOING YOU INSOLENT LITTLE-- GAH GET OUT OF MY SIGHT RIGHT NOW!"
Heidi stood up which caused the rest of her classmates to erupt in applause.
"ALL OF YOU SHUT UP! WE HAVE 20 MINUTES UNTIL YOU'RE OUT OF HERE. BE QUIET AND LISTEN!" Ovelby screamed, quickly silencing the room.
"Hey you guys. I'll see you at Alyse's house after school. Bye!" Heidi yelled as she left the room and Ovelby slammed the door behind her. She ducked around the corner to see if the hall monitor was nearby. Not seeing anyone she sprinted towards the opened front doors and left. The sun outside was shining and a quaint spring breeze was blowing. In the distance Heidi could see the top of the Tin Tower. Once again she released Ekans from her ball. She was still laughing hysterically from the prank they pulled.
"You did awesome Ekans... She didn't even see you. We'll have to top ourselves now though. We'll brainstorm with the guys when they get out," Heidi said to her reptilian friend. Ekans nodded as it slithered next to its Trainer. "I wonder if Kenton is home yet? I want to run home and grab this book I've been reading to show everyone. Do you think we have time?"
Ekans nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he usually doesn't get home until 3:15 anyway and since I got out early, I've definitely got time. Let's take the shortcut!" Heidi jumped over the railing on the side of the road and slid down the hill.
"Here, jump on my arm. I'm running there!" Ekans slid up her legs and wrapped itself tightly. Once she was secure, Heidi began sprinting at full speed, dodging around trees and prickly bushes. Her house was just through this small pockets of woods. Heidi then leaped over the small crick on the other side, landing in her yard. Her mother was outside gardening with her Kadabra, who turned and smiled when Heidi appeared. Her mother however wasn't smiling.
"Young lady, I just got a call from school. Not only did you torture that poor old teacher of yours but your hall monitor saw you leaving early. What have I told you about misbehaving Heidi Padma McManus!"
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... no comment. Got to hurry though. The guys will beat me to Alyse's house if I don't hurry!" Heidi said, dodging her mother's anger. She bolted by her mother and ran inside. Skipping every other stair, she ran upstairs and burst into her room. It was full of Pokémon paraphenelia from a Sudowoodo coat rack to a chair shaped like an Ursaring. She ran to her desk and began sorting through the numerous drawings and books on it. Heidi let out a slight 'AHA!' when she found the book she wanted and bolted out of her room and down the stairs. She leaped out her door and began down to the road towards Alyse's house. "LOVE YOU MOM SORRY BYE!"
Heidi was beginning to get tired of all the running but she hated not being the first in anything. Finally she reached Alyse's house nearby and hunched over out of breath. No one was here still so that means Heidi had won the race. She sat on the porch, waiting for everyone else.
