I started playing diamond (or maybe pearl) on the DS, but... it seemed like the old game plus Minish Cap graphics.

Is there anything that's actually NEW in the new games? (for instance, ruby/sapphire added berries). Are they worth playing?

As a side note, are there any games that include ALL the Pokémon? Not just the last few?

Of course it's worth playing. Trading and battling with anybody around the world, new Pokémon, a whole new region plus many more things. And technically you can get every since Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl. Just use the GTS or trade here at PC.

Of course it is!!! New Pokemon, GTS, Trading and Battling around the World using the Wi-Fi, more pokemon moves, new features like the Underground minigames!!!

Like everyone says, yeah it's all of that! The contests have had an upgrade. Instead of poke blocks you now can make poffins, amity square where you can walk certain pokemon, but yeah platinum....tops even that.

err none of these are really NEW.. they're just modifications on old games. I want to know if there's anything fundamentally new (I guess the addition of WiFi would count.. and I guess I'll try platinum)

I had stopped playing pokemon all together for about a year before picking up Diamond and it pretty much revived my love. If you consider yourself a pokemon fan, you owe it to yourself to pick up Diamond or Pearl and at least check it out. Granted, none of the in-game features are different, but once you actually beat the elite 4 there's tons more options in terms of breeding, battling and collecting. It's definitely worth playing ^___^

first of all, I don't recall ONCE saying that I was a "pokemon fan".. I don't play for loyalty, or for pokemon, I play for the GAMEPLAY. I'll check it out, but if I'm not enthused within thirty seconds, I can safely say that as a standalone, it would never have succeeded

Dude its awesome! you can Chain now, FIND SHINY POKEMON WITH EFFORT! and heaps more other stuff, I rate it OVER 9000!!!!/10

Not many people play Pokemon for the plot, or if they do, they aren't thinking about it all that hard. While many 6-11 year old kids might get a kick out of the 20 hour main game*, it's what you can do AFTER the main game is done with that keeps people turning on their GBA/DS for dozens of hours even though the credits have rolled.

There's the Battle Tower, which is basically "What if Gamefreak made an in-game competitive environment?".
There's Wi-Fi play, where you can play casually against friends, or in a competitive Smogon like environment with clauses and stuff.
Trading is only worth it if you have others to trade with, since the GTS won't help you with Pokemon you haven't already seen.
There's breeding, and for legends, soft resetting for good stats. This is very helpful if you want to get into trading but don't have anything to offer.
And all of these above topics focus on certain game mechanics (EVs, IVs, natures, abilities, etc).

Many more that I didn't list.

*The main games always have the same central plot with regional modifications. Different starters of the same general type, some type of Pokemon gang, the Plot-device/legendary Pokemon that are tired into regional myths, and your cocky rival.

You can also wait until March and just get Platinum. The plot will be extended/modified, more Pokemon will be available, and a few other nifty additions.

alright, I think I'll just wait until platinum... but I don't have wifi :|

    *unsubscribes*

Im half way through pearl right now and I would say it is definetely worth playing (excspecially if you were as dissapointed in ruby as I was) Wi Fi is brilliant for filling up your pokedex, the legendaries are cool, the new pokemon are varied between awesome (lucario, luxray) to clones of old ones (starly=pidgey, bidoof=ratatta) to CUTE (buneary) and just what is going on (mime jr, lickylicky, magnedome). And lastly it bought back my love for pokemon again I just get so pleased at the fact that over 10 years and I still play pokemon the most defining franchise of my childhood.
Sorry I probably sounded like I just won an award :)

Platinum will stop everything of the games but of course DP is worth it...like what Kavin said and the other people...also why would nintendo make a pokemon game with all the pokemon in it? It would make the game WAY to easy!

So really, it's fun to play if you have wifi, because you'd have a variety of stuff to do within the game, but since the game mostly focuses on wifi itself, it's leaving the people who don't have wifi not much choice but to just take Battle Tower. :|

Good point but what about people local to you who may have a copy you can always trade, battle etc with them (not in a crazy stalker kind of way!!). Or maybe you could try to find wifi hotspots. I dont have wifi myself luckily one of my freinds do.

I agree that wifi makes the game much better but without it as a Pokémon fan the game is still really worth it our you won't be able to try out generation four which means you can't try out the new 107 Pokémon and the much better battle system, not forgeting it's another new journey for the trainer.
The battle system got configured in gen 3 a lot sorting out physical and special but with Gen four with the new Pokémon into this and many new moves, hell yes if you like Pokémon.

No, there are alot of people who have played this game and dont really like pokemon; but they hang out in OC/OT/OVP/#tpc
