I recently got the first 10 seasons of pokemon as a torrent and i noticed something about the series that i really wish wasn't present.

Everytime a new pokemon shows up, It usually completely owns to show how competant and strong it can be, however after their pilot episode their capability to be strong tends to decline by the tenfold.

I especially noticed this about team rocketss pokemon. Have a look at Lickitung for example in its episode where it first made its major battle appearance "Princess vs Princess" It completely trashed Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Vulpix without getting hit a single time. however after that it didnt have a chance against pikachu on 9/10 occasions.

This is the case with almost all pokemon that play a major role, with an exeption of ash's pokemon, and even there it isnt consistant with Pikachu still having problems with battles it should have no problem with.

To cut the chase short: I wish that if a pokemon is shown to be strong that it actually would have to battle an equally strong opponent when having problems.

(i dunno maybe im just being nitpickish but i thought id just throw this out there)

I have noticed that as well, I guess they're just going with the flow of Pokemon, sometimes it's not that strong at all, but sometimes it is. :'x

The main pokemon that bugged me in this department was actually Ash's Torterra I honestly Cannot recall a battle after its evolution that it actually won.

A lot of it does have to do with Team Rocket's older Pokemon. I remember the episode where Jessie's Seviper caused a massive rampage for the Trio as well as Ash & Co., but after it was caught it just went downhill. I think a lot of it has to do with how well the Pokemon are trained, in Team Rocket's case anyway.

Ash's Gligar! As a Gligar it was completely incompetent and at first it was cute, but then it just got annoying! Gliscor however kicked butt, so swings and roundabouts. :p

It feels like they did this with Team Rocket it in general. When I first saw them as a kid attacking in Viridian I thought they were going to be formiddable then when we got to the forest it would seem their true colors shined through. I wish I could think of Linkitung like this, but really it didn't seem to get an adequate amount of appearances for me to really say since it was replaced by the comic relief of Wobbuffet, and even when he was on Arbok got most of the use anyways.

I would extend that it doesn't apply a whole lot to the group of Ash company. Cause Iris Excadrill has looked beastly through out Best Wishes thus far.
