I need advice on double battles. I will explain below.

I decided to try the battle tree for a double battle for the first time with an IRL friend.
The first attempt we just had a really bad run in with the first team who had fighting type attackers that was super strong against our guys. So we decided to switch again, but we got wiped out almost exclusively by a FREAKING PELIPPER! My Friends Ash Greninja got OHKO'ed by a Gelisopod or however you spell it when it used first impression, so he switched to his Mega Charizard and I had my Mega Beedrill.

The part that I don't understand is that the Pelipper we got wiped out by had the ability drizzle and it used multiple attacks so it couldn't had been holding a choice scarf. Since it had drizzle, neither its item, nor its ability could had increased its speed.

It out Speeded mega Beedrill. Mega Beedrill with a 145 Speed, which was Jolly and had perfect Speed everything. I'v and E.v trained fully. I don't recall a tailwind happening, so WTF happened?

After the two battles we had getting wiped out both times, its like the game specifically anaylized our teams and chose perfectly fitted teams just to kill them.

I did the end battle things before in X and Y and I did pretty ok solo with my Greninja and my own pokemon. But even my moody bibaral, tyranitar, garchomp, and my mega beedrill were taken out way too easily during our game. So obviously we are doing something wrong. Any tips on how to do double battles?, cuz obviously using single battle strategy isn't going to work.

What move was the Pelipper using that knocked you out? If it was a priority move, then that's irrespective of speed.

I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not, but I've found that the Battle Tree opponents come designed to counter your team. For example, I've been using monotype teams recently, and I've had my Fire and Dragon teams face multiple Water and Ice teams respectively in a row. Either I'm extremely unlucky or the AI is intentionally messing me.

Though other times the AI is stupid. For example, the other day I was in a double battle against an Arcanine and a Lapras. The former used Sunny Day and the latter used Rain Dance immediately after. And I was using a Mono-Water team at the time so my emotions went in every possible direction during that round haha.

As fa as tips go, I find that spread moves help the best, especially Earthquake. It can be paired with a Flying-type with Thunderbolt and/or Ice Beam for excellent coverage, My longest Battle Tree run was with a lead duo of Zapdos and Haxorus who used the exact strategy mentioned. Zapdos also had Heat Wave, another spread move.
