Another one of my curiosity threads. :D

What do you think in using Archetypes? Are they good, or bad? Could you mention your best archetype deck?

I think using Archetypes are a disadvantage, but its each person's point of view that makes us think differently. They're not a good thing, not bad either. Maybe somewhere in the middle? So far my most successful archetype deck was an Elemental Hero deck, and another deck focused on spamming fusions. xD

    Good times, good times. (:

Archetypes are the heart of Yugioh. It makes your deck unique. If we played types, there are only like 12 types. How many unique decks would there be? Archetypes are amazing. They make your deck fit you.

The only good E-Hero deck would be a Swamp Hero deck w/ D-Hero engine. E-Hero got way too many support that was too focused on specific monsters to work. A flunked archetype.

Archetypes are not a disadvantage imo. Choose an archetype that fits you, and build your deck around it.

Honestly, I've been creating archetype decks since I started watching the animé.

I'm itchin' to recreate my old E-Hero archetype deck, only focused on a few heroes. Maybe I'll recreate it sometime, together with creating a scrap deck. :D

I dunno. I feel like a bit too many archetypes have been introduced in the past year. Nearly every set of monsters is a new archetype and whatnot. I liked it a lot better when you had different types and they all had subsets of cards that work together well, but you had to discover the combo yourself, rather than have it broadcast by the card names.

Still, though, some of the archetypes are pretty unique. Of the newer ones, I especially like Naturia. Worms are interesting too. Of the ones I am not too fond of, it's X-Sabers, Flamvell, and Ice Barrier.

And while I'm at it, Zeffy, I'll try to compound a list of archetypes too.

Well I'm not entirely sure. I have some of my favorite archetypes and there were a few good archetypes back in the day when there wasn't nearly as much as there are now. Making a deck composed of a set archetypes is fun to say the least and allows you to find certain combos within that deck. But I don't think most require nearly as much strategy as when yugioh was first introduced really. You would basically splash a lot of normal monsters with few effect monsters and powerful spells and traps card. But like I said idk as I do have some of my favorites.

Um wasn't the dark magician and an array of his cards considered an archetype as I'm not sure xD. Oh and can normal monsters be considered an archetype as well because there are specific monsters, spells, and traps that target normal monsters :/.

Archetypes are good if they're built well.

That's a summary of how I see them. If they're not built well then they're... not good, I guess. Archetypes however are very flavorful and it makes you feel awesome (er, awesome-er) when you're playing "XX-Saber Gardestrike" instead of "Cyber Dragon" in X-Sabers for example.

Gah. I just posted my thoughts in another thread that can be reflected here. :<

I suppose I wish all decks that aren't currently top tier were playable (or viable should I say). I really hate how the game has turned into an overcentralised piece of crap. You can't win in major tournaments without running all these new archetypes that have been introduced in the recent years.

I think the game would be so much more interesting if a lot more archetypes were viable and not just the ones you see at the major tournaments now like Infernity, Gladiator Beasts etc.

I WANT MY SKULL SERVANT DECK TO BE VIABLE.

To re-cap, I don't mind archetypes but not if KONAMI is going to overcentralise the game with a small range of specific ones.
