They say that curiosity killed the cat, but I'm really curios. >_<

What's the staple card you use the most? Mine would probably be Mystical Space Typhoon. Its just darn awesome. :3

... That first part could actually be a pun for Yu-gi-oh. Rescue Cat much?

Anyways, I guess the staple that saves me the most is Brain Control. With it, I can make that needed Naturia Balkion and negate their traps, or I can steal their biggest monster for a direct attack for game, or I can steal it for a tribute, although in my deck the only tribute monster sucks w/o a Naturia as a tribute.

It's an overall great card with a small cost. I'm not too sure people would run it in threes if it wasn't on the banlist though (except maybe monarchs and possibly sabers?)

Anyway, I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but let's team-compose a list of staple cards which can be splashed in nearly every kind of deck. Just for reference purposes, obviously.

I'm just going to list the ones off the top of my head. Feel free to suggest more.

    See below for list.

I spam my Giant Trunades, MST's, Sangan, Call of the Haunted, and Brain Controls from time to time. Most common one would be Giant Trunade though. Hursh I know Heavy is better D: but I don't care to much for it really C:.

Add in Rescue Cat. It's not a staple but it's definietly played alot. Oh, and Gorz, Trag, Fader, DaD, Red Dragon Archfiend, Colossal.

    Monsters
    Ally of Justice Catastor
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
    Black Rose Dragon
    Colossal Fighter
Mist Wurm (TCG alternative to Trish)
    Sangan
    Stardust Dragon
    Red Dragon Archfiend
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier (OCG)

    Spells
    Heavy Storm
    Mystical Space Typhoon
    Brain Control

    Traps
    Bottomless Trap Hole
    Divine Warning
    Solemn Judgment
    Mirror Force
    Torrential Tribute

Those are the cards I would typically add to a deck as a skeleton.

I really like both Trishula and Mist Wurm, though to be honest, Mist Wurm has been a lot better to me than the former... Trishula never breaks the game for me, sadly.

And as much as I think Sangan is a nice guy, sometimes I don't think he fits. Nice guy, though :D

As for the list I was compiling, I'll add Trishula and Dark Bribe.
edit After some thought, I'll add Marshmallon, Spirit Reaper, D.D. Crow, Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, Fissure, Hammer Shot, Smashing Ground, Scapegoat, Swords of Revealing Light, Book of Moon, Raigeki Break, The Transmigration Prophecy, and Compulsory Evacuation Device.

Hammer Shot, Scapegoat, Swords, Raigeki Break, and The Transmigration Prophecy are not staples.

    Mind Control says sup.

There is no true staple that fits into all decks.

    1. Mystical Space Typhoon - closest card to a staple. Doesn't fit in some OTK decks like Chain Burn, Exodia etc.
    2. Heavy Storm - all decks except ones reliant on the backrow like Macro decks.
    3. Bottomless Trap Hole - almost all decks
    4. Torrential Tribute - almost all decks
    5. Gorz the Emissary of Darkness - almost all decks except Infernity and ones reliant on a specific theme like Machina Gadgets and perhaps other decks that may rely on Solidarity
    6. Mirror Force - almost all decks. Ranks lower than Torrential Tribute since it isn't as easily chainable.
    7. Solemn Judgment - see reason for Mystical Space Typhoon.
    8. Brain Control - almost all decks except ones that don't have a way to abuse it (i.e. use the monster as tribute fodder, synchro fodder etc.) It's usable as temporary monster removal and swinging for game but I wouldn't recommend using it if that's your only form of abuse.

These are the cards I actually think come close to true staples. There are also generic Synchro monsters that can be treated as staples since they affect the main deck in no way so I don't think they're worth mentioning.

I added Chimeratech Fortress Dragon just for the lulz.

Fuslier Dragon,Dian Kieto,Limiter Removal, and Trap Hole are all good for me.

None of those are anywhere nearly as staple as the other cards mentioned in this thread.

In other news, I discovered a duplicate of Book of Moon is my new favourite staple.

Surprised nobody mentioned Cold Wave. In my opinion the best card in the game by a lot. It's basically an instant-solemn, if your opponent has it, because it usually means you're going for game.

    i.e.

Cold Wave --> Cat --> Double Faultroll --> Hyunlei --> Airbellum --> Game

Without Cold Wave in there, the combo is uber susceptible to TT, BTH, etc. Cold Wave pretty much means game every time you play it (except for me, since I play Frog Monarchs and oftentimes only use it to stall because I opened crap lol).

Just my take. Honestly though, I have yet to see a highly competitive deck that doesn't run or at least consider running MST, Heavy, or Brain. So those would probably be closest to staples. Cold Wave should be run in every deck not named Infernity.

Also (for this format at least), D.D. Crow should be considered a side deck staple.

Cold Wave just doesn't belong in the average deck. It's a -1 that limits your options and unless your deck can mass special summon in one turn there really is no point.

Almost every meta deck right now mass special summons in one turn, lol.
