Try either that, or just train the Starly/Staravia/Staraptor that should be in your team.

Trading for an Abra? That's for pansies. Why, I had to catch an Abra myself. Kids these days...

You spend less time catching a Machop than catching an Abra, that's for sure. And since I completed "legally" (catching only the first stage and training to evolve) my Dex in LG, I'm just completing Diamond in any way, I'm really tiring to do thisfor 493 Pokémon. Because of that, I've also become lazy with this kind of stuff, though I caught Mesprit without a Master Ball.

And it's the same, just easier. Despite, you get a cool nickname ("Kazza"). Okay, it's terrible, and I can't change it, but I've gotten used to it.

Also by trading it'll take shorter for it to level up to a decent level to beat the gym. So it's better all round.

I had Empoleon by that time, but that was my only good Pokemon, the rest were HM slaves. If you've chosen Piplup, get to the point he learns Brine. This can let you use the half-finish strategy:

1:Use attacks until it's got half health.
2:Brine!
