I wanted to know what some of you guy's favorite movies were. I thought about it since I was watching a few of my favorites for the past couple days. Some of my absolute favs are Jurassic Park, Alien, Pulp Fiction, The Fast and the Furious, Dancer in the Dark, Aladdin, Jaws, Spiderman 2, and Batman:Mask of the Phantasm. There are many more I love but these always were the best to me.

So tell us what your favorite movies are. Or give some recommendations so other members might watch them. Out of all these I listed I want to recommend Jurassic Park as it is my number one, but who hasn't seen it by now. So besides that I would say Dancer in the Dark. It's a really good drama/musical that is very serious and does not follow the norm that musicals always seem to stick to. And if you're a fan of the singer Bjork then you might be interested since she is the lead role and helped make the soundtrack.

Anyone who actually watches it or has seen it feel free to talk to me about it as I'd love to hear another serious opinion about it because I can never get anyone to watch this freaking movie. Lol

I saw Dancer in the Dark once. Can't really remember it though.

Rather than list a bunch of favorite, let me narrow it down to a couple.

The Fall. The one directed by Tarsem. It's fantastic and visually gorgeous. This is one of those movies that I think quite literally everyone can enjoy regardless of their tastes.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. A modern noir film with everything you might love about noir movies but with Robert Downey Jr. Great dialogue and story. Really fun and amusing throughout. Might not be everyone's taste though.

    Really, really recommend both.

do you mean the Lars von Trier Dancing in the Dark? I've heard EXCEPTIONALLY mixed things about that, but mostly because people either love or hate Von Trier, so it comes with the territory.

regardless, my favorite movies of all time, in alphabetical order:
    - 2001: A Space Odyssey
    - The Big Lebowski
    - Chungking Express
    - Days of Heaven
    - Do the Right Thing
    - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    - Fallen Angels
    - It's Such a Beautiful Day
    - Lost in Translation
    - My Own Private Idaho
    - Mysterious Skin
    - Rushmore
    - Synecdoche, New York
    - The Thin Red Line
    - The Tree of Life
    - Whisper of the Heart

I'm putting it under a spoiler because the list is long~

    Spoiler:

There's more... but my brain can't think of them all. :c I'll add them as I think of the rest later. Mind you, I'm pretty obsessed with family/children movies more than anything else. I'm not one who enjoys anything with strong elements so to speak. A majority of these movies have a strong special meaning to me like Ponyo, Alice in Wonderland, Phoebe in Wonderland, Dolphin Tale, Rainman, Radio Rebel and Lemonade Mouth.

Yup that's the one I'm talking about. And yeah it does have mixed feelings about it from what I've read online. For years I keep seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey get mentioned to me. I really need to hurry up and watch that movie.

i'd be more inclined to like von trier if those in the film world weren't clambering over each other to dismiss any social critique of his films (read: the lingering taste of misogyny in his filmography) in the name of 'but it's so avant garde, tho!'

    as for my favourite films
the list changes constantly and is in no way binding
    Spoiler:

mine is a very healthy list of movies that are great bc of how they make me feel & those that i consider artistically superior
one's feelings during & after the film are just as relevant to the 'greatness' of a film than the apparent quality of the film - die hard 3 will never match up to, say, nights of cabiria in terms of sheer quality, but i will smack you upside the head if you say the feelings produced are any less valid

in short, i'm incredibly varied and love my pretentious shit as much as final destination 3

    final destination 3

the memory of watching that tanning bed scene as a young middle school boy shall forever remain within my mind

as for the von trier discussion, dancer in the dark has been on my list for sometime, but until i make myself watch "a brighter summer day" i refuse to watch anything else. As for the movies of his that i have seen? Breaking the Waves and Antichrist were pretty brilliant in my opinion, but i fucking hate nymphomaniac so he's 2 for 3 right now for me. I've also been meaning to see Dogville as it has been recommended to me, but i haven't gotten around to it.

i'll put up a list of my own favorites once i make some more progress on my research paper >:(

Some of my favorite movies are as follows:
    Space Jam
Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith

The Libararian Quest for the Spear
    Metropolis (1927)
