I think the idea of Flying > Fight is the idea of the high ground advantage. Fighting low cannot catch that above you. It's sort of like why in RTS games where you want to be on higher terrain than your enemies: its an advantage in a fight.

Purely, it was for balance reasons that I was able to juggle the types in just a way I could calibrate just the right mix of SE, immunities and NvE in ways I felt would prevent inferiority, excessive overlap and... well, it's an old list.

The problem with Sound type is that Soundproof also blocks some other typed noise moves: bug buzz, Grasswhistle, Metal Sound and Time Roar. Sure, you could say Retype them, or change soundproof to an immunity to trhe sound type instead... eh, I don't know. Sound to me seems like it can fit...
