No it shouldn't be changed. Don't fix what isn't broken, it has grown slightly over the years but still remains generally the same as it did in Red/Green for a reason, it just works. As others have said, if they want to experiment with other mechanics than that's what the spinoffs are for :)

Got my game on Wednesday and I'm at the 4th gym city. Loving the game so far, everything is flawless! Team: Frogadier level 35 Charmeleon level 34 Fletchinder level 34 Lucario level 35 Still have no idea what my other two pokemon are going to be, had the other 4 since just after the 1st gym haha.

Gen I purely because it was my first venture into the Pokemon world :) I still love Gen II don't get me wrong, but the first Gen just has it for me!

I'd say Cyndaquil, was the first one I chose and it's the easiest one to work with IMO.

I never really give up entirely on a Pokemon game, so I will be playing Platinum and SS (as well as every other main series game) for many years to come! :P

My favourite series was the Sinnoh one, it had the best battles and character development. The original series was good back in the day though!

My current playthrough of Black 2 is the first time, outside of doing challenges, that I've ditched my starter. I just found using Servine was annoying, never used him in B/W so thought I'd try him here... big mistake! Although on the bright side, it made room in my team for a Glaceon :D

I do find it harder than most other Pokemon games, as I have to grind inbetween gyms just so that all my Pokemon are on par with the gym leader's highest Pokemon, which is a little bit of a pain but with the help of Audinos isn't much of a problem. Saying that I've still not blacked out yet in...
