  • I recently got a slight raise, now I'm looking for my own music studio so I can have a place to get away from everything else and just write, play, and be creative.

Waitresses aside (because they get so little money and have to rely so much on tips it's ridiculous) fast foods tends to be hit the worst when it comes to the minimal wage. It actually gained .05 recently so now it's 8.05 (not that it really... matters....) so that's what the workers where I work get unless they get a raise. Right now as a shift leader I'm only getting $9/hr though I'll be getting a little raise soon for transferring to a new store.

Speaking of which I really hope I don't regret my decision in doing that. I love my manager and I feel so bad for leaving her but me transferring would be less hassle than what they would have had to do if I said no.

I just really need a job... I want money so I don't have to spend everything in savings or keep asking my parents because they will eventually say "no"

I don't even know how people can think that anything less than $10/hr is something you can live on. I'm shocked that some US states don't even have a $10 minimum wage yet. I mean, you simply cannot support yourself in today's day and age on anything less than that.

Many, many years ago, $8/hr was the big money. Nowadays, that's like a drop in the ocean. You can't pay bills with that!

tfw the minimum wage in Texas is $7.25/hr.

tfw at least it's cheap to live here i guess.

  • In Spain, minimum wage is 37.4€/day which, assuming a 8-hour day, means 4.67€/h. To be honest though, minimum wage jobs are extremely hard to find- I only spent 9 months so far on minimum wage, got a 70% raise on my second year, and the last job I applied for pays twice as much. Then again, living here is about 10%-20% cheaper than in the US and you don't have to care about things like healthcare and such, so...

  • What's wrong with not having healthcare? There's still a chance of you getting into serious danger if you've gotten careless, which a majority of people do based on fail blogs.

$7.25 here too. You'd swear they think everyone in the south lives in tents and eats ramen noodles everyday. Not having insurance is the worst, I probably owe like $5000 that I never intend on paying, because fuck them. Needless to say, my credit is super jacked. Goverment health care is a joke, Obamacare is ridiculously picky too.

  • I asked three American friends of mine why they were against free healthcare. Two of them mentioned something about it being "too socialist". I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. Really there's so much you could do when you spend more tax money per capita than any other in the world.

I received healthcare in France once and it was top notch. The officials insisted on giving a small educational seminar (that I couldn't understand half of because it was in French) covering medicinal precautions, its history starting with Pasteur, etc. When I got sick of strep the antibiotics were available for free (technically you had to pay first and then the government would pay you). I can't understand why no one would want that, really.

The word gets tossed around a lot and misused. Basically it means, everyone gets equal everything. While that's okay for some things, yeah, I do believe a brain surgeon should be payed more then a waitress, because of the responsibility, the schooling, ect... Healthcare does not fit into that. If anyone believes they deserve any better medical attention then anyone else based on income, (which is the argument, some people don't believe health care is a right, but rather a privilege) then they can just fuck off. My husband makes plenty and yet we just got our healthcare taken away because of 'random auditing', no other reason, just 'random, because'. Also most people who make minimum wage are rejected for government health care because they 'make too much'. Obamacare could of been an amazing thing, but it was distorted so much by all the fighting and red tape that it doesn't help as many people as it tried too, and ended up screwing over some people. From is what I hear, France's health care is pretty great.

  • Obamacare has been effed up by Republicans doing their best to make it not work so they can sell it as a failure and blame it on Obama. That's the only reason why many Red States like Texas are refusing free money from the Government to extend Medicare to poor people, which many blue States have done already.

And the point of having a socialized healthcare system (see: Europe) is making it so nobody needs to ever care about insurance unless they want to pay extra to get priority treatment in private hospitals. Which is not even that great in the end, because a centralized national system has, by default, more funds to invest in treatments, hospitals and salaries than any private company will ever have alone.
