I don't see why people make such a big deal out of Valentine's Day either way. If you have someone to share it with, great! You've pretty much got a set day to get together and do something, whether it be cliché romance like seeing a movie and grabbing dinner or just hanging out together. If you don't have anyone, just treat it like any other day.

If you're that insecure that a mere date for couples makes you hostile, I think there are bigger problems for you to deal with than "omg Hallmark and corporations are taking over the world with their fake holidays!!1". :/

apples2, while I agree with virtually everything you're saying, watch the language.

Valentines Day is fine with me. Some people have said that it's a waste of a holiday because you should always be loving/sweet with your bf/gf, but in the real world relationships aren't always like that. Valentines Day is nice because it gives you that chance to remind your lover that you still care about them. That even though you may be busy at times or fight once in a while you still care about them.

I think Valentine's Day is overrated, but when I can spend it with someone I still like to. That doesn't mean I put all my effort into doing things for them on that one day a year, because I do all the time anyway. But, it's cute to get some chocolates or something specifically for Valentine's Day. I just don't think it should be as hyped up as it is.

I just looked at the calander and there it was, staring at me, laughing at me.

As you all know, Valentines Day is comming up.
    What's you're opinion on it?

Personally, I hate it. If you love someone with all your heart, you should be doing little things for them all the time. It's all over rated.

I'm not just saying that because I'm single and I've never been in a relationship over valentines day. No, I'm really not. I just don't like the damn holiday.

Basically what is said here, anyways I look forward to Pancake day more! :D

The majority of all of you are pathetic. The reason why most of you are single is because nobody wants to deal with someone completely lacking self-confidence and independence. Go outside on occasion, have fun and meet some people, or if your hobbies revolve continually around the computer, go meet some other nerds and geeks and perhaps find someone special.

What's worse are the people saying Valentine's is just-another-day, which "ironically" are the perma-single people. Valentine's day is essentially a booked off day for couples to enjoy themselves together. With the zaniness of most people's schedules (note, for some of the people in this thread, that doesn't imply to you), it can be hard to find a day where a couple can be together, just with each other. Valentine's day is a great day where two people can be romantic.

And to the pseudo-intellectuals blabbering about how it's just a way for Hallmark to make money, etc, most people that aren't in hollow love tend to pair little gifts with deep thoughts and passion for each other. Lovers don't buy each other, they give to each other. You losers are looking at the card's/gift's function and not its symbolism. Then again, if you've been single all your life, you likely wouldn't understand what it's like for someone to care for you.

You make it sound like you're supposed to feed women chocolate as you would a dog. Good job.

Congrats on being one of the few people in this thread that isn't completely abysmal with the opposite sex (or same for gays).

While I was one of the people that previously said I like Valentine's Day, I incredibly dislike Apple's post (no surprise he got booted out for something then). While opinions are wonderful things... your opinion has been expressed in a way that may be rather hurtful and offensive towards other people. Furthermore, these "Pseudo-Intellectuals" (some of whom are at Oxford University :cheeky:) are pretty much right about the commercialisation of Valentine's Day. You'd have to be living in an airtight metal container in Bhutan to have not noticed the massive influx of heart-shaped objects that hits our shops this time of year. Suddenly, something as simple as purchasing a box of cookies to eat on the way home has to become purchasing a box of heart-shaped love biscuits with strawberries all wrapped up tight in their heart-shaped box with pictures of Eros and wrapped up in a pretty red ribbon. Aww...ain't that romantic. Actually no. Its garish, its gaudy, its tacky , its tasteless. It is the bland consumerised idea of love that the shops force us to buy our loved ones or they won'y love us back. I prefer to make my Valentine's gifts reflect the person's idea of love and not the bland corporate majority's idea of love. Get something special to them. Roses? Chocolate? Cards? How unoriginal. How pointless. Its just a form of income for the shops. I love Valentine's Day. I hate the commercialisation of it, turning a wonderful celebration of a universal human emotion into a moneyfest for everyone who can cash in. Don't you realise this when you see heart-shaped Valentine's dog biscuits in pet shops? Or were you too busy eating them and saying "I <censored> loved Valentine's Day!!!!!!!" followed by a series of grunts. Now quit your insults and grow up. You obviously don't know what love is, so stop suggesting other people do not. You certainly won't make many friends that way.

NB: I realise the bit about the "bland corporate majority" sounds like sterotypical punk-rock lyrics but for once it actually makes sense to use it in a sentense.

Never been with someone, kinda want to, but i wouldn't go all out on valentine's day.
i definitely wouldn't do a "to my valentine" card or something to that effect.

I'd do something though, it's kinda traditional innit?

Like make my own card for the person or something

Feel free to replace 'chocolate' with whatever food she most likes; it seems to me to be something inherent of the gender that women like eating.

Everyone likes eating. The way you say it makes it seems like you're supposed to feed women like an animal. Does your sexism stem from being rejected in the past?

OK I can see this thread deteriorating away. I think we should all thake no notice of Apples, he is a troll and only wants attention. Lets continue this thread without any more references to what he said. He's obviously been booted out for something anyway.

That's because no one is having optimism about Valentine's day. This thread is nothing but a pity party.

I think we should all thake no notice of Apples, he is a troll and only wants attention.

While he may have been trolling, everything he said was true.

Also, Mr Oxford, that should be "I think we should all take no notice of Apples; he is a troll and only wants attention."

Let's continue this thread without any more references to what he said.

Why not? Everyone is being depressive, which is what his points are addressing.

He's obviously been booted out for something anyway.

He was booted because of the language he used, not because of his opinion. In fact, the moderator that infracted him, agreed with him.

For "The Cynic", you aren't very cynical.

. . .I'm still excited about it. . .even if people aren't feeling so great about it.

I don't really care if companies are cashing in on it; it's what companies do. They survived because they were opportunistic. To not try on a day that plays on peoples emotions, would make them a bad company. And if you had the power to cash in one something like this, wouldn't you?

I know I would. Cash can help me give a smile to others faces. As fake as I might sound right after this word; I would donate most of the money I made to shelters. I'm quite the animal admirer. I dislike that so many have/had bad lives, to to help just a little would be a fantastic Valentines Day for me. Which is why I'm volunteering that day at a shelter. :3

Personally, I never really took notice of Valentine's Day. I've only used it to show my friends how much I care for them ^_^ I guess because of that, I've never taken it seriously haha but it might also be because it is highly overrated. Most of the holidays in America are overrated (if you think about it).

i think its stupid. as others have said you dont need a special day to tell someone you love them and give them stuff. its just a stupid holiday invented as a money maker for the card/chocolate/stuffed animal companies.

I don't really care about it. :/ It just seems like a normal day to me, but it might have some importance in my life once I'm older.

I wish my amazingly cute English teacher was around for Valentine's Day. I would get him a card and then he would love me forever.

I didn't mean what I said in any pejorative way... it's just stuff I've observed of the females I know.

Ew Valentines Day, the most commercial holiday, apart from Christmas.
I'm not anywhere near a romantic, and it is the appendix of holidays.
It probably served a purpose before, but it's been so long since that time and we don't know the point of it anymore.

Apples2, grow up. Just because we don't subscribe to your particular beliefs doesn't mean that we are pseudo intellectuals. If you actually had two brain cells to rub together, you would notice that.
