  • Considering that HeartGold and SoulSilver incorporated a lot of elements from Crystal, I think the remakes will follow the Emerald storyline a little more as well as additional plots that follow. So they may choose Wallace as the Champion, with Juan as the Sootopolis Gym Leader.

OR, there is always the possibility of co-champions. Maybe we have to defeat both of them to get inducted into the Hall of Fame. We just have to see from here. It's all speculation right now.

I really feel like it will be Steven as the champion, because there are remakes of RUBY and SAPPHIRE, not EMERALD, so Steven goes along the lines of the original story line better.

  • But we're forgetting that all the remakes as of late have taken place in the future of the last one. Time has passed and people have grown.
Wally again from that seems like a wise candidate.

  • I know that Steven is really strong, but I prefer Wallace. I like their styles, but I want to battle for the tittle with the champion of Emerald version, because this is the best memory that I have about the 3rd Gen.

But Wally is a good option too. I think that it can be interesting.

    Here's my stance.

Whichever of the pair's Pokémon gets a mega evolution is going to determine the champion in OR/AS.

Or, if Delta Emerald IS confirmed during E3 (since it's highly suspect now), they might keep the champion in each game the same and introduce the later Mega Evolution in the Emerald remake. Which means Mega Metagross is coming (I better start importing loads of DW Beldum to send via WT). Meanwhile, Mega Milotic would be put off until Delta Emerald.

    Thoughts?

  • Never really played Emerald, so for a long time I had no idea who Juan even was. So I'd rather see Steven as Champion, and Wallace remaining the eighth gym leader. They could have a Wally who's gone off and trained up, as the post-game 'boss'.

  • They've never had to make this decision before, so it will be interesting to see how they do this. I can't imagine them completely getting rid of Juan, if he's not returning as a Gym Leader then I'd expect him to make some sort of cameo in the games.

I did some further reading. Steven left Hoenn for a while after being defeated at the E4. He leaves a Beldum for the player. So maybe he's returned to Hoenn to stay and is back for these AND Emerald's remake?

  • I think that Steven will be the Champion since they're following Ruby and Sapphire's story with the teams. Should they remake Emerald in the form of DeltaEmerald than we will see Wallace.

  • Steven has been confirmed to be in ORAS:
    https://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml

Apparently he's getting a Mega Charizard X (why not Mega Metagross though?) and his main focus is on Mega Stones.

I think that it's for Demo reasons, and not for battling purposes. Look at it' level in the screenshot, it's Lv. 100. Also it looks like he's talking to the player about Mega Evolution as if giving a lecture. So yeah, it'll be similar to the professor's Azurill, to give us an intro into the world, but in this case Mega Evolution rather than Pokemon.

I think due to the screenshots today steven will be the champion
I don't think the screenshots really indicate anything one way or the other. It's still pretty basal information at this point.

If you go by the designs of the protagonists you'll notice that it's a pretty solid blending of both the Emerald designs and the original Ruby and Sapphire designs. It essentially takes the pallet from the Emerald designs and arranges the colors in a pattern similar to how they were on the Ruby and Sapphire designs.

I'll also throw in the argument that if Steven is used as a tool to further develop the role of Megastones in Hoenn it might be easier to keep him in the role of a wandering archeologist. Not that being champion stopped him from the role before.

In general the way I look at it, it's easier to make Wallace the champion. If Steven is Champion then what happens to Juan? He could be added somewhere else, but where? Being a Frontier Brain wouldn't be a bad idea I suppose. But is he worthwhile for that role? Hm...

    Honestly , I don't like Wallace going back to being a gym-leader Again .
So I prefer Wallace to be official champion while Steven is the Real champion who leave the post to find more mega-stone.
Is Steven really a steel type specialist ??? Because he seem to specialize in all type of Pokemon like Cynthia & Diantha !
I mean , Alder use 3 Bug type pokemon in the battle but he isn't refer as a Bug type Specialist So Why should we call Steven a Steel type specialist just because he use 3 steel type Pokemon.

He refers to himself as a Steel-type specialist, in the PokéNav.
Alder has a more diverse team in the PWT; he wasn't meant to be a mono-Type Champion, but Unova had a lot of good Bugs! Steven is more similar to Lance and Iris, who are both mono-Type Dragon Champions but only have 3 Dragon-Type Pokémon on their team.

If by that you mean since Steven was given a spotlight in this CoroCoro instead of Wallace, it's more likely he'll be the champion, or have a larger role, in ORAS, then I agree. Extremely confused as to why they would give him a Mega Charizard; the only logical reason being to research and study Mega stones. Hopefully, that's not on his actual team if he is the champion of Hoenn in the remakes.

  • Wallace could be the judge for Contests. If Contests are Present and displayed in 3D, I would like Wallace to be there instead of a generic judge NPC.

Steven can be the Stone Guy. Could be the Champion too.

Juan can be the 8th Gym Leader, although I hate the idea of having a Water-Type Gym at the end of a long water route where you battle nothing by water types. Your Grass and Electric Types are going to get so over leveled.

    Wallace? Or Steven?

Really leaning towards Steven being the champion at this point. No mention of Wallace whatsoever, and various screenshots of our favorite gray-haired mineral fanatic, as well as a section in the CoroCoro leak. Wallace certainly could still be the eighth gym leader, and Juan the new master of contests, or vice versa, but looks like Steven's reigning over Hoenn yet again.

  • It would make sense to bring back Steven. If they are really remaking the games, why make somebody new up? If Game Freak were just going to change stuff, they might as well of gone ahead and make a new game altogether.
