NaNoWriMo this year sucks :(

  • So, the past three days, I have been at a complete impasse. I think it was several things at once:
    1. Not having enough time to properly write two days ago, when I had planned to originally hit 25k,
    2. The next day, wanting to write in a completely different universe than this one, plus getting interrupted when I did try to write, and
    3. Tonight, realizing that this project hasn't been really fun to write at all, and nothing up ahead excites me.

I think I just didn't think through this project very well. Not at all. Deep down, I want to have it written to reflect on these events for the main story, but... I just can't. It's not sparking my interest at all, even when I was in the mood to write it. The characters are so dull right now, and so are the events. They could get interesting, and perhaps that's what I should focus on, but at the same time, I just don't want to anymore.

Part of the problem, I think I also realized tonight. My sister suggested this: "Blow up the city. Kill a character. Do something different." With this project, I can't. It's a predetermined set of events that I cannot change, unlike the last two years I've done NaNoWriMo.

I only have three choices, as I see it: continue to drag through this project anyway, as hard as it might be; give up, fail NaNoWriMo, and hope that next year will be different; or pick up a different project and hit 50k in fifteen days. I already have something completely crazy in mind, but it'd be fun! I did manage this my first year, but I wasn't doing major catch-up, either. I'd be writing over 3k a day, unless the first few days, I really pounded out the words and created some padding. I've done 3k, like, one day so far.

For the moment, I will give this project one last shot with the craziest dream sequence ever... but who knows what'll happen?

It must take a lot of thinking to do what you're doing, and I hope it turns out to be okay! I haven't read any of your work, but I'm pretty sure they're interesting.

Anyways, good luck on the NaNoWriMo. :)

  • COME ON SANA DON'T GIVE UP ON US NOW!

Keep on truckin' with the one you've got going atm, I say. Otherwise, you're just making it twice as hard on yourself, and then some.

I had the second-week slump, but I just got over it. You'n'me (n'Mario), let's kick some ass, y/y?

  • I didn't! That crazy dream actually worked out perfectly! I'm so proud of myself! :'D

To be honest, as much as I like the idea I have, it can wait until next NaNo/when I feel like writing it after November. I just get in a slump easily. D:

  • perhaps, it just the pressure of NaNo. perhaps you should just turn any month into a personal NoWriMo. that way it relieves the pressure of competition against anything but the clock. (or you could remove that to and make it NoWriYear XD)

    Good Luck Sam!

  • NoWriYear sounds interesting. 50,000x12=600,000 words. o_o That's longer than War and Peace!
