My Art Studio

Maya asked me to post pictures of the art studio I work in at college. As some of you already know, I've started another year at college and so far I am actually enjoying it very much.

Today we've been working on ink and charcoal observational drawings, which...literally gave me hand cramps and sore feet (we had to use easels, and we barely had time at all to sit down) but despite that, it was fun!

So...

The room as it looks when you enter through the door.

My charcoal drawing on the easel, we were asked to do a detailed tonal drawing in about... 30 minutes. Also, the work on the wall is not mine, they belong to my neighbours.

Hmm.. entering the room certainly doesn't give a comfort feeling about how organized it is..

Well I don't really have anything else to say.. Good luck at college!

@Maya: No problem. =P And yes, that's a pinecone...not my best drawing of one, but my tutor kept stressing about tone and shade. XD

@Elia: It was a lot messier yesterday. XD; Thanks!

Oh he's not so bad, I've known him for about two years now and he's a great sport. It's just harder for the people who aren't used to this kind of work because they focus a lot on precision, and my tutor just tries to make them look more into using charcoal properly.

...actually, he does! It's a common mistake a lot of people make with charcoal, how you're not supposed to hold it like a pen or a pencil, but always between your fore fingers and your thumb. XD;

...and I could swear it looks like you keep double posting. o_O

...that must suck. XD; I have a bit of eczema too but it's on my wrist, not my hand or fingers. Even then charcoal doesn't have an effect on it, but I suppose my eczema is near enough fading right now so I don't expect charcoal of all things to cause a reaction.

Fiiine, I'll say no more then!

It's very beautiful, and so full of vibrant flowers and open space. The first time I went to Kew, I took a lot of pictures...think I still have them on my harddrive, so I'll show you later.

...pretty sure I just said that. XD; But yeah, there are also beautiful William Morris sculptures there. He is an artist I'm researching for my skills project, so I'm making sure to take a lot of pictures.

Oh, that reminds me...I ought to bring an A1 sketchbook, because drawing the sculptures will be tedious.
