The New Transformers Movie

Alright. I didn't see a topic on this anywhere, so I'll post one here. No doubt this movie will get mixed reactions when the 4th comes around, but I've got something that should make fans at least feel somewhat better (undoubtedly not everyone's heard this yet).

That's right, their silence is broken with this audio clip of Charles Adler voicing Starscream (yeah, you heard me right, Charles 'Snively' Adler, Charles 'Mr. Whiskers' Adler).

It sounds a bit weird for Starscream, but somehow it still sounds alright. I can't really explain it. No word on how they communicate yet, whether it's like in the cartoon or through some other medium.

I'm a bit speechless here... I really don't know how to react...

Now I have to say this. Transformers kinda sucks. It lost it's jazz about 5 years ago -.-

But I have to say, kidnapping Shia Lebouf and forcing him to be in this movie was quite a stretch. A GOOD one. We're planning on seeing the movie, mostly to throw popcorn at the screen, but it still looks good from what I can tell.

Oh, I guarantee it won't be as good as it was in the 80s. But for someone like me, hearing Charles (Charlie) Adler voicing a Decepticon, I guess it gives me a small ray of hope that there might be something good to this.

After all, if Charlie is voicing Starscream, for all we know, Jim Cummings might be voicing Megatron. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but not out of the question yet.

Obviously it won't be as good XP, but all I know is its Transformers and I have to see it or I'll regret it. I'm seeing it this Thursday at a staff showing in the cinema, so its cool I get to see it two weeks before it comes out heh heh, but mlah, it looks okay from teh trailers and such, but I'm not thinking its gonna be anything big big, but big enough for me to be swamped in work ;-;

I loved Transformers as a kid, and a 20 year old friend of mine recently got me into watching the recent anime series.

I wonder if they are making a Beast Wars film as well...

Shia Lebouef is the greatest person ever. I seriously love him.

He rules. That's why I'm seeing it.

The movie looks awesome. I don't really have the nostalgic factor of the cartoon (though I was in to the Armada season), so I think this looks better than the old cartoons. Shia Lebeouf looks like he'll do a good job, and the Starscream clip sounds awesome (I'm not too much of a transformers noob to know that he's my favorite character in the anime).

Well, I just got off FUS after reading a post by the person who got to see a private screening of the movie (John Roberts on FUS). Hold your breath folks, because I'm gonna make you wait two lines.

Peter Cullen = Optimus Prime (I don't think I need to say any more here)

Keith David = Barricade (he voiced Goliath from Gargoyles)

Charles Adler = Starscream (he voiced Snively from SatAM, Ickus from AHHHHHHH!!! Real Monsters, and is the VA for Mr. Whiskers on Brandy and Mr. Whiskers)


That should say something right there. Now for the big question.


DID HE LIKE IT?


As for the movie itself, he said he really liked it. Peter Cullen can apparently still do well as Prime.

The only things he didn't like was that the pace of the movie (though it WAS well-paced) didn't allow for as much development as he would've liked to see.

'My only wish is that they took the time to really establish the Autobots and Decepticons, who they were, personalities and such.'

He also went on to say that the battle between Prime and Megatron, though really awesome, just seemed too short. But he still said he loved every minute of it. And he almost cheered when Prime finally said: "Autobots. Roll out!"


And that's all he said about it. He didn't go too much into detail, as most people in the world haven't seen the movie yet. And no word on whether it was left open for a sequel or not was mentioned.

I have like Shia Lebouef since i saw him in Even Stevens and the film Holes. He was good in them.
I'm not to sure on the voices yet. I will wait till I hear them. I am hoping to see it sometime next week. but not sure yet. The trailers look good. Hope the film is good but won't beat the old classic one's.

The movie was great, though as John Roberts said...they took no time at all establishing the Transformers. There was no character development on any of them but Bumblebee, Optimus, and Megatron. I'd say more, but I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't seen it yet.

It looks like a sequel was confirmed by the producer to be greenlighted. Though no official information has been released yet, I can safely say now that this wasn't the last we'll see of the Autobots and Decepticons on the big screen.

And yes, the movie was awesome.

I saw it. I almost threw up because of motion sickness. It's not the best movie in the world but it doesn't suck either.

Alot of people will complain that the movie was too fast-paced (and it went by quick, don't get me wrong). But, there was so much crammed into this movie that it wasn't funny.

I'm not denying that the original 86 movie was better, but for a live action Transformers, this movie was awesome.

I avoided as many spoilers as I could. But those that haven't seen the movie, there might be one or two in this.

Spoiler:

Peter Cullen voicing Prime (including a few lines that'll put a smile on anyone that's seen the animated movie). It was just awesome to hear his still strong on-screen presence though.

Bumblebee and Spike (his name's Sam, but he'll always be Spike to me) had a relationship that very closely matched the one they had in the cartoon. It was just a boy and his robot car (which is coincidentally the whole reason Michael Bay got involved with this in the first place). I won't spoil it for you, but there were definitely moments where you really forgot these were robots and started thinking of them as living people (which is actually part of the whole concept of Transformers, machines that are living). Some people complained that he's a Camaro instead of a VW Beatle, but his new form works in a different sort of way.

Ironhide was just like his G1 self, a faithful second in command to Prime. This guy is simply a tank in the movie, he's big and bulky, almost as big as Prime. Coincidentally, he's a truck too (I can't remember the exact model). And he's just as brave as Prime, going up against several Decepticons, despite the odds. Let's face it, they're outnumbered from the get go, but this guy has guts going up against that many. That's his cowboy attitude that I know and love.

Jazz was also true to his G1 version. Sure, he looks different, but his personality is relatively the same. A bit reckless and sort of a resident bad--- in the group. Yet he's still brave in the face of extreme odds and robots that are bigger than him. And yes, he still wears his visor. I won't say any more than that, to avoid spoilers.

I will say that many of the Decepticons weren't quite as developed as I would've liked them to be (and that IS a bit of a downside to it). Some of them were like monsters in the movie. And many of them just looked plain creepy. I can forgive this though, since there simply wasn't enough time to fully develop everyone. I mean, there's only so much you can do in two hours. But Megatron and Starscream 'Snively' do get some particular moments to shine.

The final battle (I won't spoil it for you) was a bit on the short side. But it was graced by a redux of one of the most famous lines ever spoken in Transformers lore. I won't tell you what that line is, but you'll know it when you hear it (here's a hint, Prime says it).

Overall, I tried to be as vague as possible with this review, so I wouldn't spoil too much. Other than that, go see it. It's definitely worth seeing, if for nothing else than the sci-fi giant robots beating the crud out of each other aspect. Even if you've already been told how it ends, go check it out. You won't be sorry. I promise you that.

As for the future, a sequel has been confirmed by some official sources (Entertainment Tonight, etc...) to be greenlighted. Only rumors exist as to what'll be in it. But this is proof that the Transformers phenomenon is still going strong, even here in the States.

Well, the original voice actor, Chris Latta/Chris Collins, passed on 13 years ago, so they had to make due, right? I'm more on Agent Smith voicing Megatron. I dunno, I'm too used to Frank Welker's subtle brutality version (not the cartoony Galvatron version), but he at least voiced the game version.

I didn't see the movie yet, just looked at the cast on wikipedia.

The Decepticons don't have many spoken lines in the movie, with the exception of Starscream. You don't see much of Megatron until the last third of the movie, and most of the other Decepticons, as I said before, come on more like monsters than anything else.

But this is all minor stuff. The movie's still awesome.
