Dark types, there weren't much at the time, but Umbreon you can get through Eevee at night after it like syou enough. Then houdour you couldn't catch until you arrive to Kanto. Then, for Sneasel I think that was in the Ice Cave. So, for the Dark types it isn't too early like some.

I cannot wait to get Eevee then be able to get a fire stone to evolve it into a Flareon, my favorite fire type and Eevee evolution. :)

So any way...were there any good dark type pokemon

I think every dark type pokemon is pretty cool because they have their own ways of battling. Also I wouldn't want them too, too early in the game because then where would they put it? Ilex Forest wouldn't be a great place to put it in my opinion.

where r any electric types early? falkner was always difficult for me bc i started with chikorita

There are other Pokémon out earlier in the game who can help, even if they not be too your liking.

Though, Mareep and I think one or two other electric types aren't too far away later on.

You could always match his type of flying with Pidgey who evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18, also Hoothoot and its physic attacks that evolves into Noctowl at level 20 can come in handy. Falkner isn't that hard, just train Chikorita and your others plenty before challenging him.

Plus, if they keep the Gyms at the same levels as the original, and with the new moves out Pokémon can learn, it shouldn't be too hard even if the right Pokémon you need aren't able to be caught that easly as yet.

There's also the rare Jigglypuff if anyone bothers to look for it. xD

You could get Vulpix before Bugsy, too.

I know, i thought everyone would just pass by Jigglypuff. with sing at an early level it becomes a very good foe to face, and for such a low level has a rather high HP. You even get it before the first gym!

Jigglypuff is VERY hard to find though. Most people don't even know they are found there. But it becomes very useful since its the only Pokemon with Sing early in the game (making Gym leaders easy if you could pull off sleeping all their Pokemon).

I don't think you could find a Moon Stone early on, though, so it will have to stay a Jigglypuff for a while.

Best thing to do before battling Falkner: Go to Sprout Tower. You battle all the Sages and level up your Pokemon. Get your starter to level 6 or 7 before battling your rival in Cherrygrove as well. Battle every Pokemon you run into and battle all the trainers before Violet City. Anyone who uses Chikorita, you could use a Butterfree to battle Falkner. Just use Confusion. You don't necessarily need an electric type to beat him. Hey, you could use Geodude (from Dark Cave) to battle him if you want to. Last time I checked Rock moves were super effective against bird types.

(I used to have a level 50-something Wigglytuff....) Maybe I'll get a Jigglypuff again...if I can find one.

Well, after reading everyone's post I think it's settled that the early game Pokemon are already great and acceptable. A decrease in the Kanto Pokemon in the Jhoto region sounds logical... settled!

I'm sure they'll probably keep the pokemon they had before in the beginning of the game the same, but it'd be nice if they could add something different that's a bit farther.

I don't think anything needs to be changed when it comes to early game Pokemon. The starters are very strong for one, and can get you far enough in the game by themselves to get to stronger Pokemon. Plus, it's a bit of hypocrisy to want stronger Pokemon so early when most people say that in game is way too easy. I think the stronger Pokemon early in the game are perfect. There's Gastly, Dunsparce, Growlithe (in Crystal), and others that are fine. :)

They should follow the Crystal Pokémon encounters if anything, and I think that is best for an early set of Pokémon to capture. I mean getting Phanpy as an early catch was a pretty good choice.

Anyone want an early Larvitar? Bit of a stretch?

I think they should give more type variety in the beginning, like add a water (Poliwag was good, maybe something else too?) and a fire (Growlith/Houndour?).
