    Okay, so I saw the original thread was locked, since it was revived after a month+, but it really caught my eye.

    So, my question to you: Is Pokémon childish? Why?

    In my honest opinion, no it is not. Sure it's a game/TV Show made for children of a certain age, but it doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable for the whole family or something.

    • Well, Pokemon is a bit simple. It doesn't have any deep messages to convey and the content is very children-safe, but then lots of things that more mature people like are childish, too. Harry Potter comes to mind. It seems like everyone has read those books, but because it has a serious side people overlook the childish aspects. I think that if you bring something else to Pokemon - like the fans who roleplay or make fan art - you can turn Pokemon into a good platform for a less childish and more mature experience.

    • Like I sid over and over in the last thread: It's childish. There's nothing wrong with liking something that's childish so it doesn't matter anyway.

    I won't bother arguing with people about this again since I spent too much of my time doing that in the last thread.

    Actually, I think it was the opposite. In the beginning it appelaed to more and older people, while now people think it is only for younger kids. Though I believe, like many other things in the gaming world (like card games and such), Pokemon is not childish. It is a strategetic game, and not only that, but it lets us go into a wonderful fantasy world that we all enjoy. A world adults can not appreciate, unfortunatly.

    The show is most definitely directed at children. The cards can be for all ages, but I feel as if the games can be enjoyed by a mostly older crowd. Maybe this is just me, but from my experiance I feel like I didn't fully understand the games compared to now. What I'm trying to say is when I started I didn't understand types, balanced teams, ev training, etc. Still, for the most part the franchise is pretty childish.

    I think that's good for pokemon though. It helps keep a steady fanbase going by reeling them in when they're young and keeping them in with the games when they get older.

    • It was easily marketable to children. Since children could play the story mode easily, it smudged the aptitude for a more aged community. But nonetheless, those who look past that can only marvel in it's complexities.

    I believe it is suited for all ages. Pokemon television show is obviously directed at children, but the card game can be enjoyed by young and old -- and same with the games. I know kids who just recently got hooked on Pokemon and it gives us something to connect with.

    • There isn't actually an age limit to Pokemon. Almost nothings restricts young and old alike to do something they want. It's freedom to do what you want.

    • I had a fairly big rant on the other thread that I don't feel like getting, so I'll summarize it.

    No, it is child-friendly, but not truly childish. Only the anime seems to be that way, but there are moments where it isn't. They are rare, but they're in there.

    Some of the coolest people I've admired have played Pokemon, and almost all my friends still do

    I think it's gotten more kiddish the further it goes though, not as rough and simple as it used to be
    In the old days, Mewtwo was unbeatable, team rocket was bad ass, and everyone loved Chariard/Blastoise

    Nowadays it's just 7 year olds screaming "OMGAWSH I CAWT PALKIA/DIALGA/GIRATINA" and all that garbage instead of 15 year olds going "Ho-oh, ****ing cool dude"

    • The show is definetly childish (in my opinion beacause I don't watch it)
    but the games aren't at all because my little sis struggles a lot with the battling so its a really good stragedy game. Personally I think it is childish (probably because I get made fun of)

    • Mmm, it depends really on which angle of Pokémon you're looking at. The Anime is certainly childish, the Manga is very serious and definitely for an "older" audience, whilst the games alternate between the two. (Arguably, however, the games have become a lot more childish - but methinks this is more GameFreak's reaction to those parents who want to keep their children wrapped up in cotton wool and who sue at the drop of a penny than the fact that the franchise itself has now become recognised as childish). As for not having a "message" to convey, I disagree; all mediums of Pokémon emphasize the importance of not giving up at the first hurdle, teamwork, friendship, and respect for all forms of life.

    However, as others have said above me, who cares? I'm 21 this year but I still enjoy playing all generations of the games as much as I still enjoy reading my childhood books and listening to the Spice Girls. As long as you like it and have fun with it, it doesn't matter what age group something is made for. :3

    Depends on who you ask really.

    Now a days, most people WILL say yes, it is.

    But dieheart fans will say no.

    For me, I don't think it's THAT childish.

    and to stay on topic, most people at my school think practically all anime sucks. losers XD
