    I see what you mean.
    It's not just battles though.

Diamond and Pearl were the same. The graphics were'nt top-notch. But then platinum came out and it was superb. My bets is if this rumoured 3rd edition is released they graphics will make you (bad word) bricks ._.

lots of numbers about Pokémon sprites

Well to start, shiny Pokémon are just loading different palette files or in the 3D case a recoloured texture file. Meanwhile the Pokémon icons in the 3D games are just pictures of their 3D renders - that's the beauty of working with 3D graphics.

Anyway, we're not starting from scratch here. Creatures Inc has a big team of 3D artists that have been responsible for rendering Pokémon into 3D graphics for the past 10 years with the Stadium/etc series, and recently did the work for Pokédex 3D.

This means we already have the first four generations of Pokémon modelled in 3D, we have people modelled in 3D, we have attack animations created and the game already uses 3D graphics for buildings - and it's not very hard to drop the polygon count and texture quality on the graphics that were made for the GC and Wii to fit them on the DS.

You make your claim about how bad "3D sprites" look up close, but neither do the current 2D graphics - backsprites in BW are blown up and pixelated, and animations are choppy and rough due to tech and resource limitations.

I think that they rushed finishing the game inorder to get it done before the 3DS release because that would entail less pixelated graphics. If you look at the pokemon sprites through out the years, there is not much difference between the GBA and DS sprites, Some of the GBA sprites are in fact better than the DS!!!
THE first sprite is from gold, the second is from Ruby, the third is from BW. Over more than TEN YEARS this is what has been accomplished. The GBA and DS sprite are really not much different, one just has 10 more colors.

The graphics in B&W are much better than those in DPPt. Yes, the back sprites during battles are pixelated...but I'll tolerate that for improved graphics in the rest of the game.

The graphics look fine to me. I don't really see the problem with the back sprites in B/W. If you wanna talk about pixelated, look at Gen 1. I jumped into Gen 5 from Gen 1 and the former had very pixelated backsprites.

Of course thr graphics are better...it makes absolutely no sense saying that the NEW game's graphics are worse than the old game's...I adore the graphics myself :t370:

The graphics of Black and White were improved over Gen IV's graphics by a long shot. My only gripe about them is the blown-up backsprites.

B/W's graphics are improved over GenIV, but not by nearly as wide a margin as everyone seems to think. Overworld? Different camera angle. That's really it.

More than anything, the animated battle sequences represent a huge ton of work on their part. I'd venture the main reason they weren't included in D/P was because of the time and effort involved.

The pixelated backsprites are annoying. They didn't even need to zoom them in that much. Some of them don't even fit on the screen!

Dude, cut them some slack. First off, during battles, they had to stick to full sprites (back and front seeing that the whole back sprite is now visible) in the dimensions/resolution of the DS screen. Secondly, this is the first 3D rendering engine they made for a pokemon game, its great considering it's somewhat a prototype.

The back sprites are definitely pixelated and ugly, but the rest of the game looks great so I really can't complain. I can't say it was necessary to zoom in that much on the attacking Pokemon.

The overworld graphics have been rendered in 3D space since Diamond and Pearl. The battle sequences are the same basic 3D engine already used in the rest of the game with sprites placed in the middle of the field.

I believe that Nintendo did a better job with B/W graphics. I also like the pixels from the back sprites of pokemon, then again thats just me.

    ...what.

There was nothing wrong with the pixelation, unless you have a DSi XL, like I do, in which I do admit they were pixelated, but it didn't bother me at all. You can barely see the pixelation on regular DS systems, so I don't see why you should be complaining.

The back sprites did bother me at first (like the first three hours I started playing the game) but I got use to it. As for the graphics in general, They did a great job with them

I think the battle sprites are stretched weird, like . . . You know, when people say the one thing never to do when spriting in MS Paint is resizing sprites manually (selecting the sprite and dragging the corners, the pixels are resized at different rates if you do so). It looks like they did that when zooming in on the battle sprites sometimes.

I disagree. I think you were expecting too much from a game that relies on the exact same hardware DPPt ran on. It was /much/ better considering all they did was push the hardware to it's limits.

The graphics aren't all that bad to be honest. The back sprites are pixelated, but also realize it's more just a start for how they've turned angles/features with battling in the new gen. Nothing a third game can't fix, if anything.

Considering it's looking increasingly likely that the next game will be on a new system, yeah, especially because that leads to a much different situation in terms of producing assets (Every single sprite would have to be redrawn - this removes any advantage the current system has)

Dont you just love the new battle graphics engine?

It is an awesome improvement to the handheld battling. It adds alot of life, along with the 3d battle camera system. Battling became sooo intense due to the new improvements!
