I think they will probably be fairly similar to the previous 3DS games since they already brought the 3DS to its knees but the art style may be subject to change slightly

I don't think the graphics will change that much from XY and ORAS. It's still on the same machine as they were so not too much can change. Plus if they keep the current graphic style the same for all future Pokémon games it means we won't need to double up on remakes if everything shares similar graphics. So... that's why I'm hoping they're not too much more amazing than what we have now.

I imagine the biggest shift will be the shading of the models. As I said before, some looked like toys, and others like balloons.

Hmm, the biggest examples we got of what to expect are Gen IV vs. V and arguably I vs. GS (since GS could be played on the GB).

I could expect graphics to be similar to 6th Gen but maybe updated a bit, sorta like what ORandAS mentioned with 4th to 5th Gen and to a lesser extent, 1st to 2nd Gen. I think something like the former would be more likely since 5th Gen's engine was an improvement on the 4th Gen engine (especially by DS standards) so I could see the 7th Gen engine working similar to its predecessor but maybe with better colour and shading.

Going by the concept art that we have, I'm wondering if the overworld sprites of people's bodies will be a little more realistically proportioned. Something similar to the overworld people in Colosseum and XD maybe?

I could definitely see it being a possibility, because I know Game Freak like to advance on the engines of the previous game, because when you look at the 4th and 5th Gen overworld the buildings were rendered with more detail in 5th Gen and then the next generation we got an entirely 3D overworld, so the next advancement should logically be making the characters have body proportions that are more realistic.

I think the graphics themselves will be very similar but the aesthetic design will be different.

That's like how it was with the 4th and 5th gen, in general the graphic power was similar (although 5th gen pushed the DS further, so the 7th gen will probably do the same with the 3DS) but the aesthetic style was very different. (which makes sense considering it was a new generation)

They'll probably be wary of making the 7th gen games look too visually similar to the 6th gen games.

G4 were basically upgraded G3 sprites while the G5 ones had more of a proportion to them. I would find it awesome if G7 had realistic body proportions.

Now if only they could ditch the 2D art trainer cards before a battle and have animated 3D models be a standard for all of the trainers that also, like in Colosseum, are shown behind their Pokemon. And maybe make the background have the same or similar amount of depth as well.

3rd Gen to 4th Gen I wasn't mentioning since they were on different systems, I was mainly talking about the ones that shared a system (such as 4th and 5th Gen being on DS). And as for 6th Gen's trainer battles alternating between Sugimori art and 3D models, they only saved models for important characters, such as the rival and the villainous team leader, yet didn't end up using it for Gym Leaders or Elite Four for some odd reason. 7th Gen should improve this and go with either Sugimori art or 3D models, not alternate between the two because I did find it inconsistent.

It all comes down to which characters are important enough or appear multiple times so that they don't build a model just for one mandatory battle and optional refights. They did the same with animated trainers in BW.

In B/W, the only characters that even got animated sprites were N, Bianca and Cheren. That was very limited, but then with B2/W2 we got all trainers to have animated sprites. I think a reason why Sugimori art was used for some trainers in 6th Gen was because making models for every trainer likely would have put too much stress on the system.

That's what I meant, important/frequently encountered characters got more attention to detail in both games because they had their hands full making new Pokemon graphics.

The map characters definitely look better than before and the camera is more focused on the player. Battle sequences were already high quality.

That was beautiful. Please Litten, be anything but Fire/Fighting. Love the owl, but I'm not too sure about water this time. I'm pretty relieved customisation's back too, after what GameFreak said about their exclusion from ORAS. I'm liking the white on Solgaleo and Lunaala.

Don't worry, Litten has gotta be Fire/Dark or Fire/Nothing. There's no way they can extend it into Fighting-type from here...

...plus Delphox already broke the tradition so we're safe!

    Never...doubt....gamefreak.

We have Four Fighting typed Quadrupeds. Emboar was also "going to be Fire/Dark" based on how he and Tepig looked. The little tabby could restart the Fire/Fighting thing again. Hell, they can make it Bipedal just like Emboar if they wanted to.
