i assume that it is like four dimention space in the balls and the pokemon just float inside unconsciously, therefore get original status in the space but pokemon itself can't recover HP.

just like you, i find that every single pokemon owns unique feature (regardless of battle). however, there are always some guys i can never catch in game.
