I wonder if Pokémon Champions will be about standard competitive battles or if it will be a simplified version ala Pokemon TCG Pocket to reach a more casual audience

It was the opposite for me. I always had dogs and loved them (still do) but when I had a cat I realized I liked them even more. Both are great though.

You can try the noex battles for more variety. Just enter noex as a password in the private games section and you will get paired with people who don't want to use EX pokemons.

I tried it yesterday and I liked it. I had felt an itch for the TCG too when TCG live was released, but I didn't like it as it felt slow, clunky and buggy. So far, TCG pocket, despite being a simplified version, seems fun enough and perfect for some quick games now and then. And looks good...

I'll be rooting for Spain of course, but I honestly think Italy will take it home. Spain has already surpassed my expectations and I'm happy with our tournament. Italy is my second favourite, so if we lose the semis it will hurt a little less. It has been a very entertaining tournament so far
