That's actually pretty rare. Plus, what does it matter if you lose your save file right after you get your starter Pokemon? You've only lost maybe five minutes at most! :)

Well, that's a plus. I'll take just about anything over a slot machine. Slots are the most boring of games, in Pokemon and in real life. I never even bothered with the Game Corner in Platinum. Looks like one reason to prefer the non-Japanese version.
