A rival who wants to kick your ass and join Team Whatever to get more powerful, and maybe some more sidequests. Other than that, nothing, and about 90% of the ideas in this thread are awful. That is just adorably naive.

I ditched my Samurott after the Elite Four and now pretty much switch around between Sceptile and Venusaur. I just don't care for gen 4 or 5's starters that much, especially the final evolutions.

A rival who actually tries to kick your ass or, heck, how about a rival who joins whatever bad guy organisation will be in that region. That's pretty much it. Couldn't care less about whatever else, as long as there's a new region, new pokemon, and a cool rival, that's a-ok.

I got bored in the middle of making my own fakemon and decided to do a ghost eeveelution recolour and fusion using Leafeon, Gengar, Flareon, Magmar and Rapidash. Gengar palette, Gengar spikes, Magmar's flame from it's tail, Rapidash's flames from it's tail and legs, Flareon's ears.

That's why you need to force all the old games on kids these days like a dictator so they don't turn into terrible people. I have two nephews, and when they were younger (7/8, around the same age I was when Red/Blue came out) I gave them my GBC and Pokemon Blue. I pretty much saved their souls.

Christmas '98, a soon-to-be 8 year old got a purple GBC+Blue while my older brother got a green GBC+Red. Best. Christmas. Evah.
