well, how about instead of a kingdom, they just have to pass through a city, but while there, they find that they are low on money, so they enter a tournament together to earn money along with their monsters. While cheering for them, Miranda ends up having to outrun Allison and Nicholas who make it to the city as well. I don't want her to be a helpless woman needing rescue, and it would be better to show her being more independent in all of this

they do mercenary work and regular bandit work to raise funds so that they can survive while they try to find remnants of their empire anywhere.

I have an idea on how Matt and Zeke find them with Miranda, the water queen, but i don't exactly know what happens after they get her away and run.

They are going to be a pair of wealthy kids who's parents and several others, monopolized the water supply of a desert kingdom to fund their rich paradise. After ruining their standing with the people they ruled, anarchy erupted and the entire capital was burned down. Allison(Jessie) and Nicholas(James) survived the destruction by teaming up and rescuing a monster named Burrell who could speak to both humans and monsters. They then wandered the desert trying to find sancuary while trying to find compromise between keeping their identities hidden and preserving their family names. Over time, Allison and Nicholas eventually fall in love and agree to re-vitalize their country's political structure together and return their home to the glory of before their parents.

well, they aren't actually team rocket in that they are a part of a bigger evil group, i'm just talking about Jessie and James an meowth. and like i said, they won't just be comic relief and since this world is a more medieval world with much more dangerous monsters, they aren't nearly as comic relief, but rather, just normal characters.

Not the real team rocket, but new names and much more involved characterization. Not just one note bad guys that were amazingly funny to watch, these guys are going to start out as remakes and move on to be my own design of them.

i actually had put a hold on the story for a month or so because, well actually, because i forgot about it. I decided in the end it when nobody seemed relatively interested in the story, even passerby's that usually act really interested in my work.
but when i stopped by newgrounds where i had previous went around asking for an animator to help with it, i found it was actually getting a lot of interest, so i went back to the chats that I had been in discussing the plot to this story and I decided to go at it again.
I even figured out who the bandits/goons will be in my story. I actually got inspired when I was talking to another friend of mine and she said that the premise felt like a gritty version of Pokemon, which this story actually started out AS a gritty Pokemon remake, but I figured, hey, if I am going to make a gritty Pokemon remake, I might as well use this as an opportunity to involve my favorite villain team ever, TEAM ROCKET.
