No, no, no. None of the things you're describing right now would revive the games. The game cartridges themselves aren't supposed to take much, if any, more than 3v. "jacked up his charger or something like that" won't do much else other than frying.

2 HM slaves easiest to get in FR/LG IMO is Farfetch'd for cut & fly, Psyduck for the rest besides surf. If you can trade, by all means go for Zam. Trading with Emerald so you can get the elemental punches for Zam is a good idea. But if you can't, you will be stuck with Kadabra. If you don't...

What I forgot to say was the R/S/E game cartridges don't use the internal battery to save. They only use the battery for keeping track of the time. Saving is done on FlashRom (if I remember right), so you can still play the game. The time based stuff like berry growing, etc won't work anymore...

I'd argue that most, if not all of "taking care" of pokemon part was done by Brock, not Ash. Does Ash make the pokemons' food? Does he groom them? What does he do for them besides just training them? Off the top of my head I can't think of any instances of Ash doing anything like that - all...
