Ah, I think there's been a misunderstanding. sab wasn't referring to game development but rather game design which is what I like to call people who call themselves hackers but really aren't. For those of us who understand the true definition of ROM Hacking, we refer to those "hackers" who rely exclusively on game-specific tools as "game designers" because that's really all they're doing. That's why people usually see real hackers as superior; we're actually figuring out how the game works on our own using a debugger and a hex editor (as opposed to someone who just clicks some buttons to do the same thing).
I understand where you're coming from. I, too, have done a little game development for the GBA and I can vouch for its difficulty and for how much time you have to put into it. There's a reason most games have an entire team of programmers behind them.
