In all honesty, I did add the [unofficial] tag to HotW. Because that's exactly what it is, as it is not technically recognized as a great achievement and/or sponsored (I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong :3) by moderators. I mean, if you look at most of the hacks that have won the HotW over the ..year, very very few have actually become something more and evolved into a good or even great hack. Many of the awesome hacks you see nowadays had begun their time before the HotW was started.
Also, about it's "lasting longer and has more prestige".. well, the large part of the reason why it has lasted longer than any other competition is that it's basically never-ending. The rush of hacks will flow in no matter what, and therefore someone must win, and then it's like an ongoing cycle. Other competitions, such as HotM, slowly die out because of the lack of hacks that should have the capabilites and/or talent to be accepted into the competition. To add even more, competitions like Map of the Month (which I don't think we've really run up until now :x) die because of either lack of interest or a laziness on the particapent's (spelled that wrong too I think) end.
...and I totally left to get a banana and forgot exactly where I was going with this, so I'm going to end here. :D
