i don't remember the exact details of the official ending to mother 3, but there was an original concept where Claus' death would make Lucas go insane and suffer a total breakdown, in the form of a series of increasingly-trippy "boss" fights. Eventually the game would end with Lucas paralyzed and unable to pull the last needle. I think it was changed for being too unhappy an ending for a "kid's" game, buit anyways, there are those trippy backgrounds, hacked into the game to replace normal enemies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gNx8oPefQs

Did you hear that Giygas's boss fight dialogue was inspired when the game's creator walked in on a violent rape/muder scene in a Japanese gore film as a kid? I don't know if that's just a rumor, but I've seen that pop up everywhere. And i mean, it would make sense, too. That dialogie gets pretty f*cked up.

Oh. Maybe I got the cp'd rom then. Just seemed a bit tedious to me. Or maybe you're just more patient.

That's dedication. Have you seen the unused Mother 3 final battle backgrounds? And what did you think of Tanetane Island? (Yeah, I know how popular the games are, but the thing that sticks with me about th series is the amount of under-the-radar surrealism. I eat up that surreal horror stuff.

Aweomse. I started Earthbound. got as far as Jeff's solo chapter. I kinda got annoyed with that bit and stopped for a while, but I might start back up again soon. By the way, I'm sure you've heard all of that talk regarding Giygas. What's your take on that? (And if you don't, just say so, I won't spoil.)
