^^^ This. While I plan my main game team with my starter only Charizard and Empoleon have ever survived being on my teams in the post game content!

I plan a team of 6 at the beginning of the game and only use those 6. By the time I defeat the Elite 4 I will have 6 on my team, often members of my team are caught late on in the main game though.

Some interesting points being made in this thread! I definitely get what people mean about the games becoming stale. However defeating gym leaders and becoming the Champion is what it is all about for me! Where I think they could change the game is by getting rid of battling against evil gangs...

Gen 3 for me! I though Hoenn got the balance between new and familiar Pokemon while still having a reasonable sized pokedex. Something only Gen 3 and 4 achieved in my opinion. Mightyena is one of my favourite pokemon and so enjoyed it's introduction as well. Meanwhile Gen 1 has a special place...

I would go for this team: I think it's pretty balanced, with Charizard obviously being my starter!

I always found Sabrina the toughest, largely because I normally battled her out of sequence, before challenging Koga! I think Blaine is the coolest though - if I was restricted to one type it would be fire!

I am definitely Team Charizard! He is still my favourite starter to this day, and seven further generations! I think he is made better in Yellow by being able to use fly. While I know Bulbasaur was strictly the best early game I personally don't rate Venusaur late game due to the lack of Flame...
