I might actually do original fantasy this year. It would be the first time since like 2010 I think? I've got a bunch of ideas though. Just gotta find enough time around all this overtime. ;_;
Speaking of torturing characters, I don't think I've written anything where I haven't killed off at least one major one. I should probably cut that out.
Guilty! Or at least I used to be, until I read a bunch of stuff where the characters just brainfodump for pages (Terry Brooks, Orson Scott...
Spend two minutes reading anything by Naomi Novik and you'll be using semicolons like your life depends on it. That woman's punctuation is out of control.
This is me, with a strong emphasis on "trying." Like, how? How are all of my characters inevitably so emo? Why do I give everyone crappy...
For me it's more a matter of having some predefined material for your reader to latch onto. Using shared knowledge of canon to your advantage as a writer is probably my favorite thing about fanfiction. Like, I can drop a Pidgeot in the middle of a Championship battle against Blue with no setup...
I've dabbled equally in both, though recently it seems like my longer-running fanfiction is slowly turning into original fiction thanks to headcanon accretion. Like, are aquatic bird dragons that can control light and have telempathic musical abilities still latis?
...Aaanyway, I like...
Hiya Bay! Thanks for reading! I see where you're coming from with the "her mother" vs. "mother fox" thing. I've made a few edits to remove one usage of "mother fox," but I'll keep the others in there for now. I think the two remaining uses help avoid confusion over which character is being...
I'm on like episode 9 of Casshern Sins. It's...okay. The main character is super angsty which gets in the way a lot, but there have been some good moments too. Since it's 24 episodes I hope it picks up soon.
This is a story inspired by a dream. Special thanks to Miz en Scène, POKEMON_MASTER_0, and my wife for beta reading! Also thanks to Necrum for having a ready example of how to do fixed-width posts!
The Little Fox
The little fox wriggled under the juniper bush, the scent of bruised needles and...
This is very good.
I loved how your primary incorporation of nostalgia focused on location. My strongest nostalgic memories are of places: playing Crystal Version in a tent on Carlsbad State Beach, running around in the giant backyard of my family's second house, the playground in downtown La...
It took me a second read-through to find the theme of anti-climax. I might just be dense.
Commentary on this reaction aside, I like how it reflects the story as a whole. The expectation of something fantastic happening falls flat. Both Morgan and the Shaman tell stories with "and that's it"...
And shorter.
Just saying.
Pretty much everything Miz said holds for me. I like praise. I especially like good criticism. Both are in limited supply not just here but pretty much everywhere. There really isn't a fix, beyond possibly forming a group with other writers who are willing to do the...
Haaa, I usually feel satisfied with my stuff for the first ~15 minutes after writing it. Then I start second-guessing everything. Probably part of the reason I never finish basically anything unless I can write it out in one sitting!
